Cool... I will look forward to hearing that! I am still vaciliting. There is a lot to like about the NYXL's but there is just something I don't enjoy about the brightness. I'm hesitant, but will probably change them.

Ken Smith Slick Rounds have been recommended as an option. Anyone have experience with those?

Here we go. Forgive the bad stuff. D'Addario Half Rounds on the Ibanez BTB846SC through a Trickfish Bullhead 1K head and a SM210V cabinet, recorded in a room full of Mother's Day brunchers. Tone on everything was set flat, but we were in a more acoustically-dead space than last week..

Dude... I thought that was excellent. And, I loved the tone. I was worried that they were going to be too dark, but it didn't seem that way at all. Nice growl and full tone. Thanks for sharing.

There is an interesting story about this one and I will tell it soon. I plan to do a NBD post as soon as I get better photo's but I recall you said get it and so I did. I should also add that there is one on eBay with a case for $550. It looks decent, but internet photos can be somewhat misleading. This one is new, but it is a factory second due to a finish blemish. I can't find it. I mean I guess one of the "road worn" dings might be too deep. :roflmao:

I have an old set of TI flats I'm thinking about putting on it for now and I can't wait to play it tonight. Maybe tapes...

Same. I mean, except I have big hands, and it was my friend's 405QM, but still. While playing it I kept wondering why it needed to be so big. I have the BTB7 now and it doesn't feel a whole lot bigger.

I wonder how many people actually enjoy that massive of a neck.

Seems like you enjoy the neckthru BTB flatter fretboard.

Specs wise, both of those BTB's neck are actually almost the same with typical BTB's 20 mm and 22 mm neck thickness at 1st fret and 12th fret. Same 47 mm width at nut and 76 mm at 24th fret. Also same 35" scale length. The only difference is the radius, being the 405 has typical Ibanez SR 5er radius of 305 mm instead of flatter 400 mm found on 845SC and other neckthru BTB 5ers.

I always felt the whole point of the BTB series was to be completely different from the SR series and have wide, flat, thin necks with P-bass string spacing (18-19mm) on the 5 and 6 string models. This is what drew me to them, as I have large hands and prefer the extra room. Only other bass that I've played that I felt was as comfortable was a Yammy TRB1006. My BTBs (500, 405, 406 and 1006) are all older, but I think the newer ones have narrower string spacing, at least on the 6 string models.
