there are probably lots of differences. they all have different manufacturers. No on will enumerate them for you.

In various Promethean videos, the clip LED is flashing at the Master without Gain or Master set very high or the music being overly aggressive. This concerns me because I'm considering the Promethean head to go with two 300W-rated Bergantino AE112s, and I don't want to damage anything with constant clipping. Is this LED simply an indication that a limiter is working?
There might be less clipping with the two cabs at 500W rather than at 250W with one cab; still, I'd like to be able to use it with one 300W cab without having to be über-careful about clipping. Opinions?

When the clip light is on the amp is not clipping.
There is a subtle compression happening.
The harder you drive it the more it compresses.

If you bothered to read the thread you would have found your answer.
There a several reviews of what happens when the clip lights come on, including one by me.

In the store, the Promethean has an audible hiss (Bergantino tweeter set flat) that is absent in the tc electronic and Orange heads I was comparing it with.
This hiss is is not affected at all by the Gain, Master or High knobs, but it does alter aomewhat when engaging/disengaging the EQ and/or Vibe.
Have others experienced this? Should it be considered "normal" for the P500H, or is this particular unit maybe a dog?

A chap on a UK-based forum had a hissy unit. He sent it back and the replacement was much better.
Mine only hisses if I boost the treble to unreasonable levels.
Interesting. The hiss in the unit I'm referring to is not affected at all by the rotary High knob or by the higher-end EQ sliders. It's just sort of there, omnipresent, changing slightly when the Vibe and/or EQ are turned on or off. And the change is not incremental; it's just a change.
It was actually the Proprietor who noticed it first, but he's not sure whether or not it's just this one (which is the last in the shipment -- there are no other units for comparison).
Promethean Owner's Manual:
"8. Power/Clip
This "Power/Clip" LED shows power amp status. When the LED lights red, the power amp is clipping (emphasis added). This LED lights yellow when no clipping at power amp."
Is the manual wrong? Who is correct, Supertanker or the manufacturer?

Yeah -- I've heard it suggessted that one shouldn't put the Gain past 9:00 - 9:30 with an active bass. The numbers you quote above happened with my G&L L2500, and EQing and the Vibe control just more add factors to deal with.
Mind you, and this may be important, I found that the amp behaves far better at 4 ohms than at 8. Maybe the 250W at 8 ohms is just too low. I want something that will enable me to take just one Berg AE112 to smaller venues rather than have to lug both of them.
In any case, I'm going to try a tc electronic RH450. Too expensive, but ...

Yeah, I'm about to test it with a 4 ohm cab I'll get back to you guys with my findings. The Eden WTX-500 seemed to have this "early clipping" issue too but Markbass amps don't at all.

I get the yellow clip light when playing and it's not a problem.
I've never seen the red clip light...
