Ibanez Short scale, multiscale, headless 5. Schwing!

Hoping for a 6 too...
none other for now, only the 5 32-30". I've posted the 2021 models on the following thread:
The Ibanez Club (Part 6)
and also the complete list of new models/finishes for 2021 on the next few post of the same thread:

At least this list is what I received for Indonesia/Asia region. In your case, Japan has always been a different region in terms of Ibanez market segmentation despite also part of Asia. So, I do not know whether there are going to be other 2021 models for Japan and other market segments.

Oddly enough, Japan gets FEWER of the interesting models, compared to the US. For example, the 5 string mezzo or the 5 string short scale Talman are nowhere to be seen... I'm not sure the mezzo ever appeared, and the tmb is still "incoming".

Let's see. And thanks for pointing me to the list, will have a look! :)

yeah, tell me about it... :meh:

I have no idea what's in the mind of the Ibanez marketing team who gets to tell which models will go to each region or not... cause not only in Japan market, (and I've written this quite often in few TB forums) here in Indonesia, there are quite a lot of Indonesian made Ibanez basses which are also nowhere available locally. Even if we would preorder them, we still could not. :dead:

If there is something available down here, and not in Indo and I can help facilitate purchase/shipping, feel free to ask and I'll do what I can. Some stores won't ship internationally, but putting it through a cut out will get around that.

thanks for the offer. But, as always... when we, on our own, purchase any goods internationally, not only that we need to calculate the shipping cost, most important is the tax and customs duties that need to be paid are going to be quite an amount of additional cost to be considered. OTOH, if I could get one from a local dealer, for instance, the EHB1005MS-SFM that I got in late February 2020, the price I paid (IDR15mil+ = ca. USD1,065 = ca. AUD1,411) was the same or most likely cheaper than the price in the US (USD1,249 at MF and SW) or down there in Aussie (AUD2,049 at Oxygen Music).

Aidil, no worries. I knew you'd run your own numbers, so the offer was in case it benefited you. I understand all about shipping, duties etc as I've imported a heap of instruments, mainly Japanese lawsuit era stuff before it became a bit more popular. Didn't do it as a business, just to try stuff I couldn't get otherwise.

Watched a few YT videos of the current full scale version and I was impressed with the pretty traditional tones they were capable of. Sound was definitely not as aggressive/~fringe as the look.

At least quite often we get to see people in Japan are given some models exclusive to the Japanese market such as the Ibanez Bass Workshop Prestige SRMS5:

That is quite funky, but heading the wrong way for me (i'm heading towards shorter scales). will see if I can find one in the wild next year, though - really liking the look of it :)
Sorry about that. I wasn't suggesting the SRMS5 as an alternative to the short/medium scale subject of this thread discussion. Only giving an example of there's still an advantage of being in the Japanese domestic market in terms of Ibanez market segmentation despite somewhat shortage of bass models being offered there.

And yeah, the current Ibanez Prestige line is rather limited in the number of bass models produced. No midscale, no short sale.

32" is a medium scale not short....30" is Short 28" is sub short....the difference in weight, balance playability between 32" and 34" is for my hands not relevant. Bigger differences for example between Mikro Ibanez and 34" but 34" is right for my Hands.

No worries - sorry if my comment came across "wrong" ... wasn't in any way "having a go" at you (nor Ibanez, for that matter!).

For me, the frustrating thing with the Ibanez "Workshop" series is that you never really know what to expect. And for my preferences - they "just keep missing the mark" by a small amount: EHB 6-string headless - nice (oh, it's fan-fret only, whereas 4- and 5-strings are also available non-fanned... ah well). BTB-Volo-6 - great, it'll have shorter-than-34 scale & wider spacing (oh, no, they've made the spacing 17mm and the neck so narrow you can't widen it). So it goes :P

Equally, though, I'm sure that there are some players out there for whom these experiments precisely hit the spot. ;)

It's 16.5 at the bridge and the width at the nut is wider than an SR as is the neck overall. I own an 846V and a pair of SR 6 strings. Very few mass made 6's have wider spacing than this. There's nothing I can't manage to do on any of them, so I'm not sure what your point is.
