Just landed!! First thoughts: It is a VERY well made bass. Excellent fit and finish. Frets a re nicely dressed. Can't wait to get home and plug her in!

I think it'll be interesting. Both basses have the same electronics layout; Nordstrand Big Singles pickups with Ibanez's proprietary EQB-IIISC 3-band eq. The 1405E has a mahogany body with a figured maple top and the SR5BBLTD has a swamp ash body with the buckeye burl top. I'm really interested in hearing what sonic differences there are between them.

Yeah, me too since I have the 1205E (same as 1405E except for ovangkol top vs. maple).

When I saw and played the one at my local shop, I was struck by just how well it was made. Those who think it is a ripoff would be wise to actually check one out in person before being so sure that Ibanez is trying to get over.

Quite a contrast between the two sonically..

1405E - More mellow than the SR5, more "mids" focused, IMO this bass is better suited finger play.
SR5BB - Scooped, more aggressive sound, IMO leans more toward slap / pop, pick play
