Identify this bass guitar - it won't be easy

Hmm... could it be an Ibanez or other Japanese copy? I know the pickups aren't right but look at that bridge cover. This picture was taken from this thread: weird japanese sixties bass

I thought that, too, but closer inspection reveals a chrome cover over the middle and/or bridge pickup. It is not a single, although the neck pickup is slanted at an angle.

If you watch the original video, from 1:43 to 1:50 is a closeup of the bass. It's not lighting tricks - it's a single, very slanted pickup.

Also the rest on the lower bout. I agree there are some differences, but I think we're finally getting closer.

I had a Japanese bass with those very same pickups in it. Mid scale 32", sounded great! I sold it to my dad's bass player who had just gotten his '62 Jazz bass stolen.

I miss both those basses
