My Marleaux is my 2nd bass, when it's not my 1st. It's light and versatile, with the active and passive modes being the same volume. It’s not as aggressive as the DF or as clear as the Nord, and it’s not as playable as either, therefore my 2nd.

The obvious choice for number 2 has to be a Fender Jazz, to do everything else. Obnoxious rock, mostly.

my highway one jazz bass would be my 2nd bass and a musicman bongo 5 HS would be my dream main bass but since the £ is alittle few and far between atm it might be a while before this dream can be realised

There IS a "1 bass does it all" instrument... that would be a Series I or II Alembic. The electronics allow it to sound like pretty much ANYthing else. Of course you get to pay for that flexibility!!!

My bass experience is limited... But from what I have heard and played, I think a good hollow/semi-hollow and a good solid body gives a decent range of tone. Right now, I have a cheap semi and a cheap solid. Epiphone and Dean ain't on the list, but that is what I gots. Epi Viola and Dean EVO. I am a short scale, 4 string type o guy. In the future, I'd love a Birdsong, my only real GAS attack right now... but aside from that, I ain't in too big a hurry to upgrade now that I have 2 basses... My skills won't be outstripping my equipment any time soon...

DEFINITELY: My Birdsong Cortobass and my Epiphone Viola. The Birdsong is incredible, and the EPi was my first... I still love the thumpy sound the Epi has with flats on it. I play the Birdsong most, but still get the EPi out from time to time at church...
