I like the simplicity of a Precision and I had one as my main player for some time. But I always missed some more tonal options and something like a bridge pup. So I'd go with a passive 4 string jazz as my one and only bass (and I'm on a good way achieving this state)

The question already answered here as one with a single non-P bass for 39 years before owning a second, non-P bass.

A perfect compromise would be a P/J Bass. While neither purely jazz or precision, you can get enough of either to cover just about anything.

For what it's worth, I've had a lot of extraordinary bases over the years (MTD Sadowsky, Alleva Coppolo, Marleaux, Jerzy Drozd, Roscoe, ACG, Steinberger, SSD, others), and of all of these different basses, the one that has the most hours on it and actual gigs the most is a used MIM PJ Deluxe with upgraded (SD) pickups and tuners. It's more often than not, my go-to bass, especially if it's an outside gig or in a crowded bar with a high potential of drunkass collisions.

An old drummer friend of mine, who knows nothing about basses, has on numerous occasions praised the sound of my old PJ over basses that cost almost 10x more.

After 40 years of playing the same J bass, i thought i'd try a P bass (based partly on all the love they receive here)..

I played everything hanging on the guitar center bass wall, and none of the P's they had made me smile.

at a local shop, I found a used Eastwood Bass VI (TB64) that i fell in love with, as well as a Sterling SUB, and a Squier Jaguar.. I eventually bought all three.. now i smile.

Well... Since I own two basses and they are both P basses, I guess that's a yes. Although, if I only could have one, it would be the Tony Franklin. Sometime you need that extra beefy jazz pickup on the bridge.
