No. My hands are not comfortable with 34-inch scale basses anymore after 43+ years of playing bass. It would be either my Rickenbacker 4002 (yes, "2," not "1" or "3"), which has end-to-end humbuckers (as if a P-Bass pickup were in-line), or my custom fanned-fret P-Bass as set forth in this thread: A Different Custom P-style Bass , or my new Ibanez BTB845V, if I needed a 5-string.

Definitely a P-bass. Its the sound I grew up with, the sound that moves me, and what I consciously and subconsciously expect to hear from the speakers when I play that first note. And, since I am not a pro with a need to have multiple flavors available to satisfy the discriminating recording artist or engineer, I only have to satisfy myself (within reason of course).

For sure a P pickup. But it would have 5 strings, a 3 band active eq, and a large humbucker at the bridge. And it would be made by Nordstrand, not Fender. Just like my current main bass. Works great for any style I can imagine.

Absolutely would be a P. But, I’d have a hard time choosing. I currently have 5 P’s. But, these 2 are my top contenders.

Unless you have a crystal ball that tells me what y future needs are, this question cannot be answered. If I'm going to be 100% classic rock type stuff, the yes P it is. If you show me a future that is jazz or fusion then no - need my fretless jazz clones.

Since my interests have migrated from 34" scale (my 1963 P-bass) to short scale, my answer is that I'd go short scale, probably my Gretsch ThunderJet. Superb bass, great sound, well balanced, impeccable workmanship.

FWIW, I will be answering P bass.

Super tough call but over the years i had one bass at different moments and it varied as to what it was. The main thing is that when you have 1 instrument there really is no GAS (either due to finances or other reasons) so you dont think about questions like this one.
