similarly in Amman, Jordan, I'd get folks coming up to me & trying to start up a conversation in Arabic

Oddly enough, I used the phrase in Bangkok standing in front of an Egyptian restaurant, when some dude came up and started speaking Arabic to me

luckily I learned how to say "I can't speak your language!" in many many languages, LOL!
