I'll never record audio or video of myself playing ever again, and the encouragement here has helped me solidify that.

What are your reasons for being discouraged from recording?

By taking that guy's comments to heart you have allowed an external source to eliminate one more reason to continue playing bass. No matter how awful you think you sound, if you dig it, why not keep doing it? Record away, just don't post it.

To be honest--I am glad the internet wasn't around when I was younger.

I thought I was the World's greatest sax player and was quick to criticize. Man--am I glad those days are not forever out there on the interwebs.

As I matured--mostly from getting my butt kicked by musicians in NYC---I learned to shut up and practice harder. lol

I didn't say I was going to stop playing. I haven't recorded anything in a year.
When I finally picked it up again, I decided I wasn't going to play for anyone but myself, but getting the snide, snarky pokes at my hearing & those year-old recordings is getting pretty damn old.

OP, you are assuming you will never improve? Every great artist you have ever loved, including Lemmy, once was a beginner. Keep practicing. Learn to play what you love, make it fun.

Instead of complaining about TB critiquing your ability, perhaps you should be practicing? That's the only way I know how to improve.

If you're happy with your ability, then either don't post recordings or be prepared for others to critique them. Especially if that's why you posted a recording in the first place.

It's easy to just complain about someone else & difficult to put in the time & actually improve, assuming that's what you want to do.

I never heard the recording that allegedly sounded like a can of wasps, but that aside, taking a shot at someone because of a hearing issue is pretty low class. Consider the source and only worry about criticism that is constructive.
