I'm getting a Bee Stinger!

Alright I've decided to place an order for a Bee bass Stinger model! I'll be depositing the money to Fred tomorrow.
It'll be a 6 string fretted Stinger with bishopwood top and acrylized bloodwood for fingerboard. I havent yet decided on the other woods...its so hard, especially as this is my very first custom order.

I'll make this my progress thread! Hopefully it'll be finished by march next year!:hyper:

Does anyone in here own a Stinger?

Hollow man...wow...! I was going for the coward-way and use the same top and fretboard as the beautiful bass on Bee's site...but seeing that top makes me want to go wild and choose something else!!
What pickup setups have you guys chosen? Single pickup or dual?

Use whatever topwood will make you smile every time you pick it up! For me, Fred was wonderful about photographing several topwoods he had just purchased and emailing them to me. I narrowed it down to three, and he gave me his recommendation based on what I was looking for. He then bookmatched his recommendation and one more for me (split it and lined the two sides up to show how it'll lay out on the body), and after comparing them, I took the one he'd been touting all along. The man knows what he's doing! I can't speak for him, but if you ask, I bet he'd be willing to forward the same tops he sent to me to you for your approval. As far as I know, the top woods that he sent to me would all be included in the price of the bass... I probably could have gone wilder, but I expect there would have been an upcharge.

As far as pickups, I went MM/J... a Delano MC and Delano split-coil J... can't remember the exact model names. Fred was awesome to work with on that too... he's a single-pickup guy (while I am very much not), but he was totally receptive to my idea.

The MM/J sounds like an excellent idea! Do you mind if I copy it?:crying:

Ive actually been looking for a dual pickup bass, and I quite like having 2 thumbrests:smug:

Copy away! I had originally planned to go with two Delano JSBC split-coils that Fred had on hand, but then I spent some time with a Lakland and it really made me appreciate the MM/J combo. I figured that since the Delano MC came so highly recommended by Fred, this would be the perfect time to have a MM/J made for me! And since you're interested, the models I chose are the MC5 FE/J and JMVC5 FE... supposedly they're designed to go together for a MM/J design (as opposed to just tacking any dual-coil/Jazz pickup together... we'll see).

I'm hoping mine will be ready in early November. When Fred and I first committed to the bass, he said it could be ready by August, but then I had to come overseas for a bit, so I asked him to delay. If everything stays to schedule, maybe you can get a sneak peek of mine to see if you like it before you have to decide exactly how you want yours.

And definitely ask about the topwoods! There's nothing like getting to choose the best piece to fit your notion of how your bass should look!

No matter what, I think you and I are going to have some killer basses!

Actually, sofar I've just told him I want a MM/J setup, no details about the actual pickup models!

Im planning to not have any fret markers on the fingerboard, but I'd like some kind of inlay ON or AROUND the 12th fret....I just cant think of something that'd look really good on it!
Any ideas? Ive been searching the internet for inspiration for hours without success.

Ive got some pictures of topwoods from Fred now...I was originally considering a dark wood..like that bishop wood. Unfortunately he didnt seem to have any. He did have something completely different though..holly. Im considering a holly top... its very far from my original idea but it might work.

Holly? Cool! I didn't see that one. If you're looking for a dark wood, ask if he was any walnut tops. Walnut tends to be pretty dark and often has some nice figuring. He gave me the option of a nice walnut top... I went with a quilted maple instead, but the walnut would have been just fine too. You might check and see if he still has it or something similar to it.
