You said exactly what I was thinking. I think the first one is hilarious! And - planned. And I think the got the exact reaction they were looking for. This ain't new to us, but I assure you none of the kids in the audience saw that coming, and we're talking about it for the rest of the day and more.

Commenting only on the first video, the kid is misguided in my view. He probably thought it would be cool, but then when he did it the whole effect fell flat. My bigger issue is that there are some people out there who would love to have a playable instrument and cannot even afford that. In that sense, the kid needs to understand that his ownership of an instrument is a privilege and he should learn to respect it at least a little.

First vid: spoiled rich kid, or maybe having a really bad day.

Second one: just sad, my kids had a rocking horse exactly like that which was in my wife's family before that.
I also hope that they picked up all the scrap wood & junk afterward, as it looks like a public parking area.

I'd never do it myself, but if others think it's fun to smash their own stuff, that's on them.

I think he flipped out in the studio when they were recording Tommy and smashed a $12000 plexi-glass window. In today's money that would be even more than $12000. That guy knows how to spend.

I don't feel good about it -- it represents senseless destruction of property. the first case is more "acceptable" than the first case, because it could be construed as entertainment. The second video looks like destruction for the naked enjoyment of destruction. Not cool. But both make me feel a bit sick really.

Holy crap there are so many responses. TL;DR. But...

Anyone (including the guys from The Who) that thinks smashing a playable instrument is a moron. It's not cool. It's senseless.

If it's a matter of being frustrated with your instrument or, more likely, your own playing, donate the instrument to a school or drop it off at Goodwill. Or maybe even give it to a random person on the street. There are plenty of people who would love the opportunity to play an instrument.

You are missing the "performance" aspect of it.
Right or wrong and independent of your personal opinion, smashing guitars has been part of rock shows for a very long time and it does often get the crowd fired up.
...You gotta respect that pudgy little kid for his showmanship.
