No but it's kind of... I don't know, I was going to say immoral but it's not the right word... it just doesn't sit well with me that somewhere there's another kid who has no money and dreams of a guitar and would be ecstatic to be given that one... while these guys get a kick out of breaking a guitar "for fun"... It just seems idiotic, quite frankly.
One thing is if on the spur of the moment you get carried away and start smashing it. This is just lame. Very lame.
In a few words? I don't care.
I'm a bassist but that doesn't mean I feel a special connection with every instrument ever made. I drive a Nissan Rogue but I don't cry if I see one in a car accident.

Whew! Real comedy: could (almost) imagine the pain of that situation, definitely don't want firsthand knowledge, & good timing.
There is surely a percentage of most audiences who are there for just the sizzle and don't care about the steak but I tend to think most folks who pay to see a musical performance would rather have musical substance first and the extra bells and whistles as a minor accessory.
Maybe that is wishful thinking on my part.
I guess there will always be Kiss type junk bands for the idiocracy.

I now own an Ibanez that a frustrated teenager TRIED to break onstage. When it didn't break he just kicked it. Everyone laughed AT him. I paid him $20 for it after the show.
Maybe he was mad at the Steelers performance in the playoffs that year (it had a Steelers sticker on it). I brought it home, fixed it, and still play it. It needed a tuning key, pickguard and a paint job.

Kid got 450,000 youtube views for a (probably) poopy bass that he can still use for parts.

It blows my mind how many of you geezers say "blah blah blah, kids today". This type of thing has been going on for years! The kid probably learned it from watching videos filmed when YOU were kids.
Some of us are just pretending to act our age. As a parent, I want my children to have a steadily increasing taste of freedom while they're still under my protection.
Even so, smashing music gear is an area where I'd only allow that choice reluctantly, and only if they had earned the money for it themselves. I will at least spare you my reasons for thinking we weren't put here to be destroyers.
The first video is funny but in reality (or at least in my own reality) it's kinda lame to smash instruments.

Yup, and I thought it was really stupid the first time it showed up on film all those years ago and I'm younger than the geezer who was having his guitar temper tantrum.
It's not kids today, this type of thing has been going on for thousands and thousands of years.
There is nothing wrong with that kid, he was just not taught properly by his parents, there's still definitely time to get him sorted.
I am all for kids having freedom and allowed my kids tons of leeway in many areas but they learned pretty early that destroying things was not gonna be tolerated.
We taught them from the get go....no lying, no cheating, no stealing, no hurting other people mentally or physically, no destroying things of value or wasting them..ever, do what you say you're gonna do, and help people and animals that need help.
Other than that...my kids could curse if they felt the need, have their hair any style/length/color they wanted, wear whatever they wanted, listen to any music as loud as they wanted, stay up as late as they wanted as long as they got their duties completed and were ready to go again in the morning, piercings no problem, tattoos after 18 no problem, smoke weed after 16 no problem, drink alcohol after 16 no problem, have safe sex with somebody they care about after 16 no problem.
Raising kids is just not that hard.

I spent a week in Havana last year and saw lots of fantastic musicians - almost all of them playing on gear that was only remarkable because of a) how cheap it was and, b) how there was inevitably something wrong with it (broken hardware, missing pieces, two strings of the same gauge, etc.). But these people make it work because they have no other choice if they want to play. When I see the kind of senseless destruction of instruments demonstrated in the OP's videos I can't help but think of those musicians in Havana - and it makes me sad.
Wait what am I saying. If I gave it to a school the students would smash it to bits!!!
