Damn dude. I am sorry. The guys I jam with I have known for 30 years. We were high school buddies. I just couldn't imagine jamming with them on one planned practice and them not being there for the next. Again, very sorry for your loss. I feel your pain. One of the best drummers I ever played with died less than a year after hip replacement surgery. I think of him almost every day. Dennis Hecht was his name.

My lifelong friend, brother, and bandmate Bobby Neal died suddenly yesterday after a brief illness. He was 55.

He took ill after rehearsing with us on Sunday. By Tuesday he was unresponsive. He was in ICU until Saturday, when it was apparent that the physicians' efforts were not reversing his condition. I was with him and his wife Saturday morning when she made the difficult decision to stop treatment and put him on comfort measures only, and later that afternoon when he peacefully left us, surrounded by family and friends.

That is so hard. My deepest sympathies to you and yours. Losing someone you love is the hardest thing any person ever goes through. It’s especially hard when someone dies suddenly without warning, and relatively young. I can only share with you what someone told me years ago when I lost someone I was very close to: “try to remember what you had, not what you’ve lost”. It can be very difficult to follow that advice in the early months after losing someone, but the more time passes, the truer it becomes. And, yes, for all us, cherish and be thankful for what we have, every day.
