We were getting 2k per show, but she told him that he could do the gigs with just his keyboard and guitar, not have to pay us. :scowl: Then she started telling him that the manager wasn't doing his job, even though we were playing Europe and touring nationally with VERY famous acts without a record out. Then they got married.
India.Arie wanted to put one of his songs on her first album AND make it a single, but she told him, "It could be a hit for you. Screw her! Noone is ever gonna hear that song if you let her record it." India's first cd went triple platinum and she got 7 Grammy noms. After she chased away the rest of the band, the promoters told him, "Look, you're great and all, but we hired you with the understanding that there would be a band, not a dude with a guitar." Then his manager quit. He had meetings with Capital, EMI, and a few other labels, but she somehow told him that those meetings were a front, so he didn't go. :scowl: After he couldn't get another band together, or get other good gigs, what do you think happened? That's right kids, she left him, and he spiraled downwardly quick. There were tough days. He was drinking malt liquor from dawn to dusk to dawn. I pulled him out of it, and their divorce was just finalized about a month ago, but I was there for him. I love the guy like a brother. I'm still there for him, but his time to shine is over.
Wow, all very sad. Just goes to show what happens when you think with one head and not the other.
The guitar player in my band dated the female singer. They went on to get married and have 3 children. I am the godfather of one of them. My band is still together after 22 years and they are still married and performing together.
I do believe that this is an exception and not the rule.

Woodchuck, that's a sad story, but sometimes talented people don't have any talent for business and even less so when they get smitten with the ole love bug with the wrong person.
Woodchuck, man, that's one stellar example. Jeez -- sounds like he could've had one hell of a career if he hadn't been such a twit.
My advice? BAAAAD. The only ways I can see it working are if the band came AFTER the relationship. That is, you're *already* dating when the project starts. Even then, it's still almost certainly going to end in disaster.
