I think crazily I'm going to get me an iRig Stomp.
Going to have it on my main board so I can easily patch in my ipad for additional fx or synths, it's not something I want to use all the time but having the iRig Stomp on the board all the time will be very handy for quick hook ups, then I think I'll be getting the Line 6 Sonic Port as my proper audio interface.
Basically now I don't want to replace my pedalboard with the iPad but I do want to augment it and have a lot more functionality available at my finger tips while the proper audio interfaces get sorted.
The one thing I do want is my session setup available in the iPad, a bunch of presets and fx that I can do what I do with my board, so when doing home studio sessions I'm not carrying a ton of gear for an effect I might use once or twice.
Going to practice more with my Ditto looper and then move on to Loopy HD instead of jumping in at the deep end.
Going to start my iPad & Bass only ep recording on Friday, give me some focus in my life

if you go into Amplitube or JAMUP or Amp-kit, all have a part of the app where the pedals can be used alone. There is an option in AT that you can turn the amp/cab/mic section off by turning the amp switch off, this sends your bass through the pedal/effect section only. the same in JAMUP in your signal chain at the top of the screen you can just turn the amp off and the signal travels through only the turned [on] portions.
You will end up spending around 100 bucks for a good interface.... but that initial purchase will allow you to journey into a huge number of amps and pedal simulated effects. that are well worth the interface and a few apps.
I do use this setup all the time and will be using it tonight actually. i run my bass into my ART USB Dual pre it handles the AD/DA in and out of the IPAD through my app of choice at the moment and outputs the signal to a DI to a mic channel to FOH that allows the "soundman" to EQ the room (as it should be). not create my bass tone as he thinks i want it for any specific song. i do use the amp/cab/mic portion. i don't have the option of having my amp on stage (for a controlling stage volume policy that is in place). i use Shure in ear monitors for my own monitor mix. I don't have a midi pedal board yet because my presets in each app are very easily changed at a quick flip of the finger. i would love to have one (midi Pedal board) but haven't gone into that area yet.
The only thing I don't like about it is that it uses the headphone connector, which is so much worse than the digital connection. I sent an email asking if there was any plan to make a digital version of the pedal, but seems like they won't do that.
Couldn't you use a loop pedal just as well?

I wound up mounting it to a small piece of plywood with cable ties so that I could also tie down the wiring.
The 30 pin jack doesn't have the most robust connector and doesn't hold a cable extender properly without help.
I have a case on order for my G55 wireless. Hopefully there will be room in it to mount the GJ2 and a direct box as well for grab 'n go..

I'm working on something similar with a PT Nano.
Polytune Mini into Irig Stomp or Line 6 Sonic Port into ditto looper into Radial JDI box.
If all goes to plan I'll be able to mount the iPad on top of a mic stand and use some sort
of mic stand utility tray to hold the wireless, ProAV2 and the GJ2 in their spiffy case.

I missed the contest, but I'm not sure I qualified for it anyways because while I used Multitrack DAW for our album, I also used a mixer and some rack compressors into my interface. Anyhow, let me know what you think of this one song. We still have to lay the leads and vox, so it's just everything else.

for those curious on the production aspects:
I used a Tascam 2 ch interface. I tracked all the drums live to one channel via a 6 channel Yamaha mixer and some outboard rack comps (kick, snare, toms, and also on the aux return, sending all the drum channels to it except the OH). I used a CAD 4 pack mic kit which I thought sounded pretty good, except there is NO top end on the kick mic. My only complaint is I could not track stereo drums, however the Multitrack reverb does make them sound larger.
Bass went down with a mic and direct on separate channels, both run through the Yamaha mixer. Some slight compression on the mic'd track via the plugin.
Guitars are tracked with two mics and mixed through the yamaha mixer to one channel. Lead track will be shot using the same mic/mixer setup.
Vox will go through a Presonus tube channel.
Haven't decided how I'm going to master. I can do it on Audacity, as their Levellar isn't a terrible plug in. I may also use the master fader compressor on Multitrack. Trying to do it the simplest way.

With my Apogee Jam Im getting latency. I get it very noticeably with an IPad 4, and I can still hear it with my Macbook Pro into Logic X. I wasnt really planning on using it live but more as a practice tool. Anyway to lower latency???

Stupid question using audiobus has anyone run Amplitube into jamup or vice versa?

Yes they do I have used jamup into AT recorder, also jamup's pedals into a fender amp in AT. Mostly into the recorder part before GB was available for recording and before the purchase of mt daw. And also I used JU into AT with all pedals and amps bypassed and just used the mastering section of AT. Just fooling around really but yeah it worked.
There shouldn't be any noticeable latency ...especially with an iPad 4 I don't have any with an iPad 2. Make sure in setting of the app (I'm guessing your using an app like JAMUP or Amplitube) in JU the ultra low latency setting should be turned [on] ... In AT there is two settings of latency: low and ultra low. In both of these apps when the ultra low is [on] it uses more processor but noticeable change In latency.
Also there is a latency setting in audiobus that could affect what you're hearing.
On a different note....I have logic 9 do you also have 9 and upgraded to X?
If so is the upgrade worth it? Is X much better than 9?
9 is pretty amazing.
That's very cool as there are some nice fx I'd like from Amplitube but on its own the amp doesn't cover all the sounds I need.
