One thing I've noticed that may be of help, is that many of these apps allow them to run in the background.

If you turn on background audio where capable, then you don't need to run them in Audiobus, which really helps with processor usage. I've found that if I go the other route and use Audiobus, clicks and pops happen much faster.

Got a response from Cablejive. It's not good news.

"Our dockStubz+ adapter currently allows for power injection when using "passive" 30-pin accessories, that either do not draw power from the iPad, or that do not utilize the USB data pins (like the Apple VGA / HDMI cables for instance). However, for setups like those using the Camera Connection Kit and the Apogee Jam which are USB "slave" devices, when it starts to use the power and USB signals from the bottom 30-pin connection, the micro USB connection on the side is dropped. We were only recently made aware of this issue from other Camera Connection Kit and Apogee users.

When we designed the power-injection functionality on this dockStubz+ adapter, it was before these new USB "slave" accessories we as prominent as they are now. The cut-off of USB signals from the micro USB port was originally designed as a safety feature, so power wouldn't be fed in from 2 sources at once. Currently whichever port power is provided from first is the one that is used, unless USB signals dictate a switch.

We are currently working with our manufacturers to find a proper fix to this issue, but we have no current timetable for the release of a solution. When we do have an available solution, we'll be sure to announce it on all our website and social media channels, so be sure to check back from time-to-time for updates. My question is, what interface do I use for the iPad 4? Last time I checked these threads it seemed like there weren't any out yet for the lightning connector. What do you guys recommend?

I currently have the irigHD that I am using and am happy with the sound quality of it. I also have the Line 6 on order and can't wait to A-B them. I doubt the sound will be too different, if at all, but I think the Sonic Port will get used more because of the outputs on the interface.

Well, I got it all buttoned in yesterday and took it to rehearsal to see how it would work in a live environment. I've tested it at home with a live-test, running to and from a board. Now came the fun part, and it didn't disappoint. Setup was done in 10 minutes, including tuning my bass. Nice and fast, got a line to and a line from the board and it handled the signal flawlessly with no discernible noise.

And I got you guys some pics, too!

This is the older model Sonic Rack I've got it in. I told you guys it was older, fur and all. LOL. But it's solid wood and plenty durable.

With the front cover off, you get to see the path. It goes into my wireless on the right, then over to the iTrack Solo (which is removed and placed on top of the rack, with a bit of loop velcro on the bottom to keep it from getting pulled off. In the event I want to go wired instead, I just go straight into the front of the iTrack Solo. Underneath those you can see my BBE and my GA AS900T. Not the pinnacle of IEM systems, nor the cleanest, but it was affordable for me. I'll be upgrading in the future, but for now this works perfectly.

Inside the back, you can see the Kensington Safe Strip on the bottom left, which also has some loop on the underside to keep it from shifting around during transit and damaging hardware. On the right of the Safe Strip is the plug in for the iTrack Solo, with a Velcro tie holding the data cable to it. My IEMs fit in here as well, and all the cables are zip tied to keep them out of the way. The power cables running to the Safe Strip are zip tied at about every foot or so, because when I pull them out of the rack I want them to come out neat and orderly. Center top is the Art Cleanbox Pro.

The monitor signal from the Art Cleanbox goes to the A and the B channels of the BBE. Yes, this is a stereo monitoring solution, however you have to be able to get stereo sent to you to begin with. I've color-coded things red and white to match the red and white phono plugs and that way I'll know what's right and left signal. I had a mono signal from the board tonight, so I flipped the mono-stereo switch on the AS900T to mono and that freed up the B channel on my BBE to send a signal to our guitar player's PSM200 for a nicer sound going to him. That's the blue cable you'll see in these pics.

The Cleanbox pro is a 2-channel converter. It converts unbalanced to balanced, and balanced to unbalanced. It makes it perfect for what I want to do, because I needed to balanced the iOS signal out (phono-XLR) and unbalanced a monitor signal coming into the BBE (XLR - phono). So it acts as a phono-capable direct box coming out, and has the added benefit of having volume adjustments, so I can adjust exactly how hot the signal needs to be coming in, or going out. At first, this wasn't working out well as it had a HUGE amount of hiss. But when I sorted out that it was simply a hot signal going into a hotter signal path, I dialed down the volume and got a quiet signal with a lot of clean volume.

The send side of the Cleanbox. RCAs to stereo 1/8" It can send a left and a right signal as well, so technically, I can send a stereo signal down the chain if I wanted to. It is also the side that sends the converted monitor signal 1/8" stereo to RCA for the BBE. I can also input XLRs on the side as well (like from my Zoom B9.1ut, the red box in the background). The only thing the Cleanbox doesn't have on it, is TRS inputs and outputs.

Cleanbox return side. This is what receives and unbalances the monitor signal for it to be sent to the BBE. On the right of the rather blurry box are the volume adjustments for the two different channels. Only half up for the monitor (on top) and a quarter up for the send on bottom.

Velcro! It's what helps keep the iTrack Solo from bouncing around.

ETA: I'll be getting a keyboard stand for this as well, so it won't always sit on the floor. LOL.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Of course, the Jam is proven to be a great interface. Not a ton of reviews on the Line6.

I'm leaning towards the iTrack Solo when it comes time to change interfaces. I'm thinking it will happen around the time I convert to an iPad instead of my iPhone.

I'm researching stuff today as I prepare to build my rack. I figure on about 6 spaces with a spot on top for a mixer. I want to make sure I'm prepared for any situation, and having the mixer will allow me to get feeds from the FOH, as well as pass my bass and vocal mic through to the stage snake. Like I said, still researching.

The vocal mic will pass through directly to the snake, as most mic's are set for a balanced XLR. Or are you working on creating one send for your bass with iOS processing and one for your vocal with different processing?

Yeah, that's probably gonna be best, because most soundguys won't be happy about separate processing for just one vocal mic, plus I don't use anything special on my voice. The main reason for the pass through on the vocal mic is to allow me to add "more me" in my IEM.

I'm thinking a Rolls PM351, and an Art Prosplit should do the trick. I'm also planning on an Art AVDirect to replace the Behringer BDI21 I'm currently using for a direct box.

With those three, and a limiter tacked on for safety reasons, I should be pretty well prepared for just about any gig.

Very true. I use a TC Helicon Intelligent Harmonizer for my backing vocals so that we can do 3-4 part harmonies with just two people and it definitely helps us out, but most sound guys just say, "huh?" when I tell them I need a cable jumper from the mic to the harmonizer. So, anymore, I just bring my own. LOL.

Today's amp of choice was a little different for me.

I'm really stuck on this one. With my SX Jazz it sounds incredible, and since I'm playing alone in my living room, I tend to add a touch of reverb and lean on the bridge pickup more than I would in a band setting.

But it's such a great tone from this amp. I've really started to tweak the other amps than the 360 the last few days. As I play, I'll stop and tweak, then resave the patch.

Picked up an 8U Gator Rack used for my iOS Mini Rig of Doom. Looks brand new, and got it for $70. Not too shabby. Moved the iOS MRoD into the new home, and put my old GK Backline into my Sonic. Looking for a BBE Sonic Maximizer to go into my Analog MRoD. Then I'll be covered in a variety of circumstances. Woot!
