There have been some Auria talk here lately,
So, here is a song which I wrote and played in NanoStudio on my iPhone during air travel this summer.

When I came home I've moved the project to Auria via Audioshare, super easy. I then added Animoog and recorded my Ric right into Auria without any bass amp. I've used the super powerful Saturn plugin as an amp.

Mastered in Auria using several plugins such as Microwarmer, OldTimer, Saturn, Pro L and Pro C

Perhaps Talkbass admin can make some changes so Adam doesn't have to fix everyone's posted links?

Rip, that's great you got the gig. Hope this turns out better than the last gig!

Seeing that you mentioned the 360 patches were boomy I have been wondering if you ( and anyone else that runs iOS apples ) set up your patches using the PA system you intend on running through? If you did have that opportunity are you able to always get that patch to sound consistent from venue to venue with only eq'ing the PA to the room? That seems like the way it should work but I haven't had opportunity to experiment with this. If an enter band is running through a PA system I would think it should be much like playing a CD through a PA system where you just have to tweak the PA EQ to fit the room.

Nah, since it was an audition I didn't take the time to tweak my presets for their system. I just found another preset that worked better.

I'm sure I'll at some point take the time to set my EQs for this band, and be back to my 360.

When I was using my PA with the other band, I had all my presets dialed in, and yeah, pretty much sounded the same anywhere we played with some minor EQ at the board, not the preset.

What is your reference system when you dial your preset? IEM? Your PA etc?

When I make a preset at home, it starts by going through my Carvin RX1200L powered mixer, into an LS1202M wedge. I also check against other recordings through the monitor.

Then I check it again through my Ultimate Ears Triplefi 10 ear buds. If all is good there, I make a quick recording.

Then I take that recording out to my van, and play it through my van's stereo. Again, checking it against other recordings.

Then I return to the PA rig to tweak anything that stands out.

At that point, I take it to rehearsal and tweak against the band. That's the only way I can really tell if the tone is a keeper, and so far I've been pretty lucky in that my presets made at home work pretty well with the band.

Having the HPF-Pre after the amp in every preset helps a lot. If I wouldn't have been scrambling at the audition, I'd have just tweaked the HPF-Pre to remove boominess. In that situation, I just flipped through my presets to find one that mixed well with the band, and when I got home used that info to dial in my presets a bit better.

It's definitely a process, but one that is totally dialed in by gig time.

Not everyone just guy's
LOL

All my presets are made with the band I'm practicing with.
I can't hear what's going on with the pa just hearing what my in ears are giving me for the whole band and I mix to fit with them. It's the sound man's job to EQ the room. I guess if I had more control over the pa I would be doing more but that's all I have control over.
All PA's and rooms are voiced different so if I can mix myself with others in my ears... The sound guy should tell me if he needs more or less of something like everyone else. I also use the hpf at the end of my chain to control the sub frequencies usually set at around 35-40 Hz. I should probably set it a little higher to keep things as tight as possible. The sub frequencies, in some rooms, can stack up quickly and be very loose and muddy sounding.

I'm close to outgrowing my iPad 3

As I do less and less on the computer and more and more on the iPad the day is rapidly approaching.

Planning for an iPad 5 or even 6 if I can hold off that long.

at least 64Gb, maybe 128, wifi without cellular.

As fast as iOS software is improving, feature wise, it'll be nice to have the extra horsepower to run it.

I can load down my 3 to where I notice it ( audible latency increase, crackles, etc ) when I stack things with Audiobus.

I though 32 Gb would be enough storage but it's not even close unless I put my listening music on a different device.

Forget carrying videos around.

Cool.. that is what I was assuming would be the case when you are playing through the same PA system in different rooms and one of the main selling points of ditching an amp and creating the presets for the sounds you were after.

That is QUITE the process you have there... good thing you will be using the same PA so it's just a matter of tweaking the PA EQ to get things right.

I imagine using presets on different PA's isn't as easy as using them on the same PA every time you play.

Ok, opinion time. Working through an iPhone 4S, some funds will be available soon....

So, iPad mini 2 or iPad 5? Yep, both are still to be released but which would you go with? Why?

Thanks and look forward to opinions.

I don't imagine specs are official yet on anything that is coming from APPLE but I would purchase the best spec'd device you can afford.. or hold off just a little while and then get a refurb direct from APPLE as they start to pop up about 2-3 months into the life cycle of their devices. As horsepower continues to increase the developers might be able to start getting some of the more resource intensive plug-ins now available on a pc/mac.

New song from Rude Duke. Evangelos wrote this funky tune.
It is really a pleasure to play on the songs he writes as he writes great songs, and since the styles are new to me, well I've to learn a lot and work rather hard.
I'm very happy about this one, Evangelos of course plays like an ACE on this one, as usual. But also very happy about my playing. I used my Geddy and the SVT Blue Line on Jamup. From 1.44 and to about 2.15 I actually sounds like Geddy!!

Duke, for a bedroom studio...should be relatively quiet.

Very difficult to recommend headphones or monitors not knowing which additional gear you have. Assuming you have no amp to drive your monitors and no headphone amp, you will need active monitors and headphones which are easy to drive. 300$ is not much for both, you will need to compromise. But if it is your limit buy headphones for 100 and active monitors for 200$. Shure SRH 440 or Audio technica ATH 50M are good choices regarding good headphones at this price range. Active monitors for 200$ will not be as easy to find. Going for something like the Shure 440 will free you with some bucks which can be used on the monitors.

I started a thread before realising this was here. Just wondered if anyone has used the ampkit link hd? The vid says it has been built with the bassist in mind and keeps all the warm lows in the sound . Other people are suggesting apogee jam and sonic port but can't find any current demos comparing to the ampkit hd. The most robust sounds like the sonic port (again no idea whether the ampkit one is thin plastic or solid etc and the apogee I know is far less robust than the sonic port)

If anyone has had/tried several of these then I would love to hear a genuine user review.

Thankyou

And regarding Auria, here is a clip of my Ric recorded right into Auria, no Audiobus. I used the Saturn plugin which is applied to 3 tracks which are recorded simultaneously. The Saturn plugin is very versatile. On one track the Saturn is used as a tube amp, on the second as a overdriven tube amp and on the third a a tube wah.

The clip is nothing special just a quick try of this Saturn plugin.
