iOS Bass Players Thread #6 - World Domination

As it turned out, I'd have too many presents under the tree (I didn't think that was possible), so I get the Blueboard early. I go to set it up and use it last night.

My initial impressions are:
- Setup was easy.
- The buttons are a bit hard to push
- I'm not used to the pedal feel, yet. There's not as much feedback as I'm used to. However, it will be easy to get accustomed to the feel.
- I can see how people would think that it's not very tough. It's very light. But I'm quite sure, having dealt with plastics like this, that it's plenty tough enough for my body weight (250lbs) and bouncing around in my gig bag.

I've read that tattoo pedals are momentary. I'm thinking that I'd get 2 of them for the expression inputs so I can change banks faster. Since JU is setup in 4s, I'm going to have to change banks a lot more then I thought.

Short version is, I like it. I like it a lot. In fact, I'm wondering if 2 pedals can run from one app?

Well... JU has 4 patches per bank. I don't remember how many banks, but they have 4 selections each.

With this, I plan to use the 4 BB buttons for the 4 patches, then scroll up and down through the banks with 2 momentary switch foot pedals. I should add that I'm not absolutely sure I can do that, but I can't believe they'd make it impossible to do that.

On a side note, I have JU pro and JU free that I dual amp with Audiobus. I picked up the free JU then got the bass expansions, then when JU stuff went 1/2 price I picked up Pro the bass expansions, and the effects expansion. The BB changes both Free and Pro, even running in the background.

If I was suuuuper critical, I would have made the pedal just a bit wider. The buttons are a bit too close for my taste. I'm sure I'll get used to it though.

Now all IK has to do is make that Lightning cable hub so I can use a MIDI device, I/O device, and charger at the same time, without having to carry my iO Dock.

I should add that the BB does change banks, but you have to hold the A and B pads for a few seconds. I just don't want to wait that long, so I'll move that function to the expression inputs.

I've had wires to my pedals since the 80's. The BB is liberating. Without question, it's a beautiful thing.

Hey all! Long time no post. Sorry about that, it's been crazy busy. Just wondered if nyone experience this with an AirTurn pedal? JamUp Pro (Just updated) and Airturn pedal on the latest iOS on an iPhone 4S. When I set it up to toggle my tuner on and off it will toggle the tuner on, but nothing short of Godzilla rampaging across my iPhone can get the bloody tuner to toggle off. WHAT am I doing wrong?

I would like this functionality because this would be a nifty thing to not only tune, but also to mute JamUp when I am switching basses live. I'm hoping to get a solution soon, as I'm in Iowa on Friday for a large gig and would LOVE to be able to tune without having to touch the screen, not to mention when I change basses.

I posed this question to the Positive Grid folks on their Facebook page, but it sometimes takes them awhile to respond. Anyone with a BlueBoard capable of checking this to see if they can replicate the issue too?

Not being able to change songs in an iOS sequencer (without touching the screen) has sunk me like an anchor in the ocean. iOS has set-list possibilities, but no iOS sequencer (as of now) can receive the MIDI info required to change songs. The only way to do it is to put all the songs in your set into one song. This means copying and pasting all the songs into one liner line.

Since many of my searches into this has lead me to the TalkBass forums, I thought I'd spell it out in black and white for anyone else trying to run an iOS sequencer with a setlist app, laptop, or even OnSong. The idea of having an iOS sequencer setlist like Sonar and many others can not happen as it is today.

On the upside, so far, sequencers not receiving patch and program change data is the only MIDI thing I've found that can't be done with iOS devices. While that stops me dead in the water, it's still pretty fantastic if you think about the possibilities.

Anyone have success running JamUp thru an effects loop? I get tons of interference/hum when trying to connect via Jam/JamUp/Radial effect pedal. Same thing happens running thru a Loooper. Both are 'true bypass'. In-line connection works fine. I'd like to have a bypass option, since I don't use effects that often. I guess I'll have to settle on Jamup on all the time, with no amp/effect as my 'clean' signal.

What are you using for an input device? I've heard complaints when going in through the headphone jack, so I use the 30 pin as recommended here.

I run through the effects loop without problems. The effects work great through the loop although the amps not so much. The defaults are set really loud so that you hear all the noise in the amp (just like the real thing). But by the time you get that down to a level that matches the dry signal that's not an issue. The bigger problem with amp sims through the effects loop is that you hear the latency - the delay time while the signal is getting processed. Since you're hearing both a processed and dry signal through the loop, you have a slapback effect on everything.
When you run straight into the front of the amp, you will still have the latency, but not the slapback because you're only hearing one signal.

Other than that, it works fine for me.
