Merry Christmas to all the bit twiddlers.

I'm hoping Santa drops off a nice new iOS interface at NAMM this year that includes
instrument in, stereo line out & MIDI in/out while being of sound construction and clean audio...

Software's ahead of the hardware right now.

Adam, I've been toying with the idea of upgrading to the Jam 96k, but a post a few weeks ago from Positive Grid (the one with the footpedal) has me waiting.

When I asked about it, it was hinted that it may be a new interface/switching system for Jamup. I gotta at least wait to find out before buying anything else.

My goal for the coming year is to complete my iOS rig, with a switching system and an all-in-one (audio/midi) interface. The other option is finally splurging for an iPad, but since I'm currently running an iPhone 5S, the iPad just doesn't seem important.

Especially if Calvin and the gang at PG release an iPhone version of BIAS (I'll stop begging when it finally gets released, promise!!).

I totally agree. At this point, if someone releases an interface that handles audio and midi, in a floor-based format, whoever does it first will own the playing field. Bonus points if it allows charging while playing.

Personally, I'd prefer rackable with either a Bluetooth or wired MIDI controller pedal.

Sorry, but a 4 foot tether is not going to make me come...

I have my iPad on a stand and the pedal would be dangling off a 4 foot wire...

Getting from the floor to the iPad with a long, complex and fragile cable seems as if it would
be a real PITA in the long run ( heh ) and I'd hate to guess at all of the potential problems.

For some reason that scares me off the floor solution, plus I don't really want all that stuff underfoot.

YMMV...

Got my blueboard it's an absolute dream to use, that said jamup is a bit lacking on the midi side, very easy to use to turn presets on and off but I don't do that I have presets for songs or bands and then turn fx on and off.

The problem is you can toggle an fx type on and off so I have a switch for stomp on/off great, delay on/off great and then modulation on/off which turns the octaver and mutton on at the same time, there is a work around but it's not really workable live. Seems silly really if the mutton was in filters (you know being a filter) I'd be sorted.

But if you want a fuzz and overdrive you either have to turn them on/off at the both time and then use a midi command to toggle selected effect and always have 1 of them selected so you can turn one off and then toggle them like that but that can be 3 clicks to go from clean to just OD or fuzz etc.

Ampkit and Amplitube work as fx 1,2,3,4 on/off so I've just bought a few fx for Amplitube (ampkit still seems lacking)

Going to mention it to jamup on twitter and see how they action.

Either way the controller works like a dream

Lots of apps are on sale. Bias and Jamup are 1/2 price. If you don't have JU with the bass expansions, you should.

I have about 4-5 hours on time pushing buttons on it. I really, really like it quite a lot.

Hey all, a little help please...

I have just purchased the JU bass expansion really only for the SVT sim. I have never used an actual Ampeg and I was very curious about how it sounds. HOLY CRAP!!! This is the sound I have been wanting my real rig would give me, for a long time. I sound just like them old CDs I've been playing along with for years. So stoked! I love the sound! String rattle has never sounded so good!!!

Now here are the questions I would like some feedback on, please...

The sound I get does have a bit of noise along with it. Not really noticeable when playing fast or loud passages. But when you let a note ring out, like at the end of a song, there is a dirty hiss type sound that is very noticeable. Not a big deal to me when practicing. But now that I've found something I really like, I'd like to use it at our jam sessions. The space has a peavey 15" combo that is kinda boring sounding, you know?

I am us ring the griffin guitarconnect cable and passive P and J basses into iPhone 4.

Also, I like the sound from "my SVT" just the way it is set up when you open JU. I haven't tweaked the sound at all accept for flipping the switches I'm not exactly sure what the do but it really changes the sound a lot. Can anybody tell me what they do exactly?

As an iOS newbie I'm learning a lot and I'd like to pass a few things on to other newbies that will hopefully hlep save you the frustrations that I encountered.

Problem:
I hear distortion on everything even when I have no amp sim or distortion device connected.
Solutions:
The volume of the input device may be too high.
The app may not have loaded properly. This actually happened to me and when I couldn't figure anything else out I just reloaded the app and the problem went away.

Problem:
A red bar came across the top of the iPad saying that Jamup was recording. As far as I could tell, there shouldn't have been anything happening and it was also draining the battery like crazy.
Solution:
This problem was also solved when I reloaded the app as mentioned above.

Problem:
I played around with Bias and then when I closed it and went to Jamup I continued to get the distorted amp sound from Bias even when I didn't have an amp selected. Also, I got the dreaded red "recording" bar at the top again.
Solution:
A friend showed me how to quit apps properly. You push the iPad main button twice. This is the indented button on the face of the iPad, not the power button on the end. This will show all apps that are open. You simply drag them off the screen to close them. This should be done periodically anyway to preserve battery life.

This may be boring info to experienced users, but I wish someone had told me these things from the start because I almost packed everything up and sent it back to the dealer.

When I first turned mine on I got feedback from every amp sim and they were really noisy. Had to turn 'em all down and then turn up my playback system. Just save them as presets when you turn 'em down so you don't have to go through that over and over.

I close everything and reboot my iPad after each session.

Superstition, probably, but it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy afterwards.

Turn "Background Audio Mode" "off" in JamUp to make it quit recording

The red line will still be there when you first switch to the main screen, but it goes away quickly, at least on mine...

Thanks! This is golden info and there should be a sticky with this and other troubleshooting info specific to iOS.

Exactly what does background audio do?
And what is recording when the red bar appears?

I think that "background audio" in the apps allows them to keep recording/processing even when they are not the app in the front screen...

I also just (re)found an "Ultra Low Latency" switch on the same page when I went to check...

I could swear that I turned this on already.

Remind self to recheck settings every now and then after updating...
