Understand the latter. The misunderstanding lies in reacting off of just seeing a number. I don’t want to be a broken record, much like most wouldn’t want to beat this dead horse discussion, and reiterate the number is just a random one. We all know it’s out there. Again, broken record. That’s why utilizing messaging and offers are useful, and why they’re an option. I’ve stated the reason for the number. I could pick another random one. Lower even, but it still would probably rub someone the wrong way. If anyone wants to discuss it, I’m open and appreciate those who have done so in a civil manner. Feel free to send a message and we can save everyone from taking away from the more useful aspect of the forum.

I think this belongs out in the public.. Your seller history on Reverb has all the info we need. Your number is 400$ more than what you paid on this Nimbus. The purple one from last week or so was ~350$ more than you paid. 3Leaf stuff from the last few batches for 400$ more than what you paid at retail. Now people who follow this thread know. Have fun scalping, no one saying you can't. Sellers here who read this will be aware.
If he’s buying for profit doesn’t that make him a business? That’s against the rules is it not?
My bigger problem with this is he is the primary one listing these on Reverb and is in fact artificially raising the market price on these. If there are 3 of these on reverb and they are all his this is not good. I think he lives close to me LOL. Hmmmmm
Given Taylor ran an auction last week to keep the business going, perhaps if the Nimbus does sell at its current price the uplift can be donated to Iron Ether.
This is the only valid point as it pertains to this forum. At those mark ups, the govt, reverb, paypal would all consider it a business or at least worthy of reporting the income.
Well, technically you’re supposed to consider all sales on tb, reverb, and whatnot as taxable income, regardless of whether or not you make money on it, so isn’t it all commercial?

I get it, if you have something that people will pay a lot of money for, if they wanna back up the money truck then who are you to refuse? But let's be honest, you're not playing three Octabvers either.
I think we all see it for what it is. I'm not trying to shame the person for doing it but I don't have to contribute to their... speculation... either.
There's been a lot of chatter on here about the rights and wrongs of gouging. I still ultimately blame the buyers more than the sellers but this is industrial level - commercial level? - shenanigans that really does seem to be taking advantage of the builder (obviously) and re. Nimbus, the TB Classifieds.
And IMO there is an entire universe of difference between a bit of markup for a pedal no longer for sale commercially (I sold my Roland SH-101 for more than it originally cost) and charging 3 times what you paid for it a couple of days before.
Anyway, for me, the most salient aspect right now is the commercial level flipping based on buying on TB classifieds, this should be declared IMO.
Um...wow...I'll be THAT guy. Are we talking food, water and shelter? OR are we talking designer shoes, Ferraris and IE pedals? I feel there's a need for some distinction here. Mind you...NO...I don't like paying jacked prices for ANYTHING. Just try to pick my battles.
I hate that this is likely to be long-winded, but I’m keen to just put it out there in one go and hopefully all can go back to having a better way to spend the extra hour, since many have unfortunately wasted the day stewing over something that ultimately doesn’t matter, so apologies in advance. I don’t understand why there is such a selective take on what has been explained, or a complete ignoring of the given facts. I’ve stated the list price isn’t serious. I’ll reiterate: Do I expect it to sell at that price? Absolutely not. Will someone value it at that price and grab it in the meantime because it isn’t commercially available and they want it? Maybe. Maybe not. For me, the owner, it’s simply there as a conversation starter. Which is funny, because no one here has inquired about it. It makes one think that the uproar is for the sake of exerting some group alpha power trip, rather than being upset that they are allegedly priced out of something they actually want. I’m sure many already have one and aren’t even in the market for one to begin with. Do you do the same in all facets of life? Berate the realtor of the house you’d like but is overpriced. The dealership of the car you’d like to try but can’t afford. Or more materially, the manufacturer of a pair of shoes you think are cool that have sold out but are available for a markup. The supermarket for the cookies that you don’t need. Apply it how you will. Would it have been more believable as a joke if it was a 4 figure number? Would the attacks have come if it were just slightly higher than retail? What if it were just put up as an auction and the final price was exorbitant? Is that still my fault that others put a price of their own choosing on it? Where is the line that initiates the attacking of others until you’re blue in the fingertips? End of the day, what someone does with what they own has no bearing on another. No one should be this upset about a supply and demand issue with something as trivial as an effects pedal. It’s a thing on a screen at this point for everyone. If it doesn’t suit you, why not just move on and get the next one? I’m sure everyone does that daily looking at the classifieds here or anything for sale literally anywhere; houses, cars, shoes, cookies, pedals. There’s a strange entitlement rooted in all of it. Someone has independently expressed interest in it and I have offered it to them at the similar purchase price – which was always the idea IF I were to part with it. Whether they decide to try it out and acquire it when timing works out for them, and someone else hasn’t taken it by that time will remain to be seen. But I have their blessing either way. I’ve even offered to hold it for them, but that was deemed unnecessary. Because, with just about everything that exists, one will come around again. There is an ongoing assumption that all pedals are acquired at retail and are then being marked up. That is not the case in general, and not the case here at all. It’s easy to say that with the example here for you, but like I’ve said, it isn’t the serious price. In fact, none of them were retail buys. Some even twice retail or more. So if, as a buyer, I’m to blame for that, so be it. If I’m to blame as a seller to want to break even if I part with them in the future, so be it. If they’re listed at a ridiculous price and someone buys it, where should the blame lie then? No one is forcing a sale or anyone into a sale. But again, my purchase prices have nothing to do with anyone else at the end of the day. Neither should a sale price. Either it works for you, or it doesn’t, as is the case with anything in life. A seller sold it for what they wanted to sell it for. They literally got what they wanted. I believe Mr. John has had to defend his reselling price in the past because he had an offering that was higher than retail, much to the chagrin of the many – only because he himself had bought it higher than retail as well. He had to similarly defend himself to the mob who came for him. Inventing the idea that some commercial enterprise is being run is hilarious. I, like you, am just a person with a like-minded interest. Sometimes we end up with more than we need through various avenues. Sometimes it is time to offload things. We are all in a similar boat because we are all here for the same reason – to talk bass, and in this specific case, pedals. I like pedals. You all like pedals. There was a gentleman a few week ago who came out with a pair of pedals at a serious exorbitant asking price. These, similarly, were no longer commercially available. Everyone jumped down his throat over the price. I engaged in it because I was genuinely curious what led them to seriously price them that way. I certainly wasn’t a bully about it and had fun with it, and even provided many with a laugh, and even gave the person kudos. Someone even went as far as to defend the pricing citing the POTENTIAL of the market getting to where the price was at. Mods stepped in and slapped everyone on the wrist for having the discussion there. No one needs to wish bad juju and throw karma at anyone. The pedals are STILL listed at an asking price that exceeds what mine are at. For example, and nitpick if you will that they’re not all here on tb, maybe they are, but every 3leaf listing is well above a retail price. Same with Drolo pedals – up to almost 5x. Have you ever seen Klon prices? The list could go on. What is overlooked as well, especially on the rev, is that asking price isn’t necessarily the sale price. Anyone can ask any price, but will something sell at that price just because it’s asked? No. I’ve seen the very same pedals being sold by known people at higher prices than what you choose to continue to cite of mine, but because it wasn’t on tb, or because they’re “famous” no one bats an eye? Many of them received for free as well. The pedal isn’t even for sale on tb anymore. There is no exclusivity to listing a pedal on tb as well as other platforms. There is also no binding law that something bought here couldn’t be sold elsewhere after the fact for any price. I guarantee it happens all the time, but I’m just the one suffering the brunt of the attacks this time. I’ve enjoyed the shared intelligence of many on the platform. I’ve certainly learned a lot and tried to impart any wisdom from my own experiences when appropriate. I’ve always been happy to help others get things they’ve been interested in and will continue to do so. These places should continue to be a place to inform and gain knowledge, and not sour the experience by bullying or taking things off course. I’ve heard from peers that they’ve been driven to distance themselves from the site because of this type of behavior, and I think you’d all agree that isn’t what this platform should propagate. Hopefully everyone can rest easy and have a good rest of the evening, either with loved ones, transcribing, or stress-free online shopping. Again, if anyone wants to chat, feel free to reach out. I’d like to lobby to keep the positive informative nature of the forums as intended. Again, apologies for the essay.

@scubaduba beat me to my post. I do not want this thread to be closed. I want Taylor to be successful. I want to continue to purchase and discuss EI pedals. I will never pay slightly more than retail for an EI pedal All of my other thoughts about the current topic have been deleted.
