Iron Ether Subterranea

We've actually been using the black knobs on pedals since before the aluminum ones. They've been on every QF2 and many or most Oxides.

The Subterranea uses a special potentiometer for the filter cutoff knob, so we can't use the knobs used for the other pedals on the Sub. There was at one point a decent knob that was similar that we could use, but I received feedback from some people that the brass insert threading was unreliable and the knobs would come loose and become stripped. The black plastic ones on the other hand are very mechanically solid, have more visible indicators, and leave a little more room for fingers, so some people prefer them, but like everything, no one choice wil please everybody.

I always welcome feedback from you ladies and fellows, though. If everybody really hates the black knobs I will work on finding something else.

Hey Taylor, we are on our third knob style now. The first was an off-the-shelf knob from Mouser and the next two were custom made knobs. We have also had a few requests for the original knobs. What we do now is give people a link to the original knobs with the shaft style and its diameter so they can locate other knobs that they may prefer.

BTW, I like the black knobs… they look good with your finishes.

Thank you very much for explaining this. I actually plan on stomping on my subt a lot! Anything to make it sturdier is all good! Btw I've yet to hear someone say.. that bassman sucked, but did you see his pedalboard?? ;)

As much as the metallic knobs looked great on the metallic finishes, I think the black ones look better with the orange finish. Now, I already told you by email that I thought the metallic with touches of red on the sides as pictured on the website looked rad (and you told me it wasn't possible anymore at this point). But I'm happy to have my SubT, and the goal of a pedal is to sound great, not to look rad, IMHO.

Besides, if you had started with the orange finish and black knobs, this conversation woudn't even be ;)

However, if I can allow myself to give feedback, a box with manual would have been great. I might be in the greater minority, but I don't have no smartphone, so I like having my Xero and Frantabit manually with me when I'm in my underground rehearsal bunker with no internet access :)

I haven't yet written a manual for the Subt, but it would pretty much just be a reprint of the text of the Subt page on the website. Unlike some of the other IE pedals, the controls don't really interact and there aren't any hidden tricks that wouldn't be obvious from looking at the pedal.

But, if anybody has questions that could be addressed in a manual, or anything relating to the pedal that could be illuminated, please let me know. We designer-types are not well-placed to see our creations with a fresh eye after working on them for months or even years, so there may be things that seem obvious to me that aren't so much.

As someone who does not own but has eyed the SubT, I am not sure what else I would want to know other than what is on the product page, except maybe some demo settings.

@Taylor Livingston What's the mA draw from your pedals, mostly interested in the SubT.

Jared Lash started an "appreciation society" a while back, which was very nice.

Really glad to see Iron Ether up and running again. Hope all is well Taylor.

If people really want some sample Sub T settings I'd be happy to share a few.

There the standard octaver (Octave and clean voices around 1 o'clock, filter to taste, all other knobs at zero)

There's the soloed octave voice for synthy stuff (everything at zero except the Octave which should be around 3 o'clock with the filter voice around 2 o'clock)

The G funk tone is both voice switches on sawtooth, the clean at zero with both synth voices around 11 o'clock with the octave at noon and the filter around 10 o'clock.

Plenty of other ideas if people want them.
