Thank you very much Taylor for your responsiveness.Yes, pedals can be returned within 5 days of receiving them for whatever reason. Just contact me at info [at] ironether.com.
I found that I like SubT the most with a gated fuzz in front of it (I use Unpleasant Surprise). It removes problem with sensitivity and sounds huge.I got a SubT in the post a couple of days ago and I've got a question if anyone can help:
I've noticed that it seems to have a very sensitive input, by which I mean it starts producing sound in response to - for example - very light string noise. If I touch the strings lightly with my right hand the SubT makes a gritty-sounding noise which seems to be disproportionately loud. It's not crazy loud, but it doesn't seem very reasonable given how quiet the input was.
I'm guessing the input is very sensitive because that helps the tracking, but is there any way to make it chill out a bit?
It's got some great sounds though, I particularly like the octave voice with just a little Uni saw mixed in to brighten it up. Great box.![]()

I think lots of people recommended using a compressor in front of it

Wouldn't this further exacerbate the issue the OP is having?![]()
Is the output of your bass exceptionally high or are you boosting the signal at all into the pedal? There is an obvious amount of internal gating in most analog octave pedals that puts most of these noises under the threshold, but if your bass has a ton of output it might let everything through. Since the dynamics of the synth voices are pretty compressed vs a bass, anything that does pass the threshold will come out fairly loud in comparison.Yes it is a sort of static noise although in my case I've got the Uni set to saw and the volume off on the Octo so I must have slightly different symptoms to you.
I am also using a passive bass - a Jazz wired in series.
