Irreversible climate damage is imminent

I think we contribute to the acceleration of the climat changes but I think we have a much deeper impact on killing every animals on this planet one day we will see the last of the dogs, cats, etc including us because we didn't take care enough and by trying to protect some species we screw the chain for many others ...

I think Futurama had a great way to portray the future and all the phases it will go through ... even the death of Earth

You couldn't be more wrong about those who haven't drank the climate change Kool-Aid. It is possible to not believe in climate change and to also not want to kneel before Big Oil. The two scenarios have absolutely nothing to do with each other....except maybe to those who bought the climate change propaganda.

You don't even realize that the only Flavor Aid being passed around is the idea that you can "not believe" in something that is so heavily supported by research. A big part of the distribution of that Flavor Aid is done by entities that might be damaged by the implications of reality.

Climate change is not a political issue. The steps we take to deal with it is, and those steps are scary to the people who bankroll a lot of the political process. The only propaganda is what deniers "believe."

Missed the point.

I was just illustrating foolish extremes.

Some scientist who thinks they've got it all figured out, wants us all to bend to their little idea what society should be, puts down others who disagree is foolish.

Somebody else who thinks we can burn fuel forever, throwing whatever pollution we want up in the air and have no ill effects/take no responsibility is foolish.

The truth is somewhere in between.

Confucius say: The superior man understands what is right. The inferior man understands what will sell.

Lawmakers and power brokers and energy barons stand to gain enormous amounts of wealth and power by having this climate thing end up at one extreme or the other. Their interests do not lie in the betterment or preservation of this planet or it's people. .

There aren't extremes in the science. There is the science and then there is everyone else.

I like how pious the climate-concerned are.......waxing eloquently about how mankind is the problem...as if they aren't actually part of mankind.

They think they'll do something productive.....like buy a Prius or unscrew a lightbulb.

These are the same people that own 3 vehicles, 2 ATV's, a boat, a motorhome, dirtbikes.....and take vacations on a regular basis where they and the family are off to the airport for a nice long trip on a 737.

Ever noticed how many carbon-spewing planes are in the air around the world at any given hour of the clock?

No talk about cutting down on those of course.

What??????....get rid of the gas-hog motorhome???....no way..
What???........only one vehicle per family???.....are you nuts??
What???....get rid of out ATV's and ski-doos??........no friggin' way!!!!
Sell my boat??.....you out of your mind???

Yep...I've got a big problem with scientists who insist that science is the ultimate truth....and we, the Great Unwashed
dare not challenge them on anything......even though next week they will report a new "finding" and change the story.

Take nutritional science for starters.......the stories change on what's good or bad for you more often than one can keep up with.

It's the arrogance I cant stand. Scientific research has done lots of good over the years, yes........but in the last 20 years scientists have been elevated to mythical status.

So a large group of scientists agree that there is climate change.
No problem.
The fun starts when it's gets to "cause".

And then there are "projections"......since just about everybody now is a clairvoyant, projections are dime a dozen.

There'll be lots more "projections".....as they are easy to do on the software available at present.

I project that in two years there'll be hundreds more posts on TalkBass.

I also predict that scientists will make more "projections".

Can you give one example of how the power brokers and energy barons will profit if we take steps to minimize climate damage?

First off, your whole point is fabricated. You don't know how many people on earth are "climate concerned", and you certainly don't know how many vehicles each of them owns or how many flights they take. It's just a nice cynical way of blowing them off, by painting them all as hypocrites, even though there is literally no way to support it with facts.

Secondly, a wise man said "nobody can do everything, but everybody can do something". We all have to do a bit of good, and do a bit less harm. If we all did that, the world could only be a better place. Can everybody drop everything and live like monks in a cave? No, obviously not. Can everybody buy a few less crappy plastic doodads? Yes. Can everybody make an effort to burn less fuel? Yes. Can everybody try to frikkin HELP a little? Oh no, don't even bother, because if we do, we're just hypocrites.

Virtually every technological advancement and medical accomplishment has been made by scientists and engineers. You cannot see a single inanimate object that did not have both scientists and engineers involved in its invention and construction. So whatever things you like in your world are a product of those scientists you apparently despise. Given a choice between politicians, financiers, clergymen, and scientists, I'm going to go with scientists every time. You clearly don't understand how science works, hence, you fear it.

Agree!

It bothers me that some the biggest proponents of climate change and the green movement also tend to have very large investments in green technology and industry. Is it a movement to heal our planet, or make people rich? I don't know, but it isn't as exactly clear and that raises up a big red flag for me.

Oh, please. Look at the dollar value of all "green" energy industries today, wind, solar, etc. all added up. Now look at the dollar value of all petroleum and coal industries.

In Louisiana, we are leveraged forever against the Oil/Jobs vs one of the most precious wetlands…. Seems Oil wins every time. All our politicians on both sides (like Demos and Repubs are any different!), are bought by the oil barons…
The morality of it is mute… It is all about money :atoz:

fnord!

Sometimes, a thing gets named and then when it's realized that the name could have been better after an occurance of sorts. They named it "Global Warming" and that left it wide open for criticism after the first big snowfall. Hence the change. Specificity is necessary when you're dealing with people who look for any weak spot to poke.

Look what happened to Ayds.

The whole idea is being peddled by "watermelons" and it's all about control of resources. Sad some fall for it. It's horse crap.

I may not agree with metalbasspro, but I give him credit for thinking for himself.

After reading his conspiracy theories in the Malaysian plane crash thread I would have thought for sure he would be a global warming 'oil companies rule the world' believer. :D

Not my theories. I don't know why I have to paint this out to anyone so often. I probably could not pass a high school english class but I am constantly pointing out this kind of stuff to people who can and probably did.

All the data for man induced climate change is backed by so many creditable scientists that I have to believe it is true. A single volcanic eruption can change global weather patterns for months at a time so I think it is very probable that the last century off industrialization has had an affect on climate.

I'm convinced the big oil companies (and the governments that they own) know full well what is happening and they are just trying to make as much money as they can before the you know what hits the fan. By then they will have built up enclaves to ride out the coming collapse of what we know as civilization.

Anyone who dissmisses thousands of scientists work better pull their head out of the sand.

There are plenty of scientists who do not agree. Problem is the press, you know the un deniably controlled press does not let their voices be heard. In fact these scientists are threatened many times.

Look around you can find them and their stories.

and you just proved his first sentence to be correct.
