Oh that is an enormous difference, based on fact!. If you can't see that then you are just as blinkered as all the other Zep fan boys. Plagiarism is rife in the world of Led Zeppelin, and they will go down in Rock history as the biggest cover band ever!
Im aware that they lost a plagerism case, I forget which song? I think it was a Willie Dixon tune. I could be wrong.. Im also aware of a rather similar sounding guitar part to the beginning of stairway to heaven. They also did a distinctly different version of When the levee breaks. and also recreated their own version of an old blues song and wrote Trampled under foot. The fact the original artists weren't sighted on those few old blues songs, was admittedly pretty shady. And they did get busted and had to pay some money to the holder of the copywrite and his name is now included on any subsequent releases. But truth be told, A LOT of rock and roll borrowed from the blues... And A LOT of Blues borrowed from the Blues, for that matter. That's the nature of the blues, isn't it?

Well l discussed a lot of other comparisons of the bands and each member.. why do you think that successful songs and lots of them are an insignificant measure of a band? It seems that you just dont like led zeppelin. You'r entitled to that. But, it shouldn't mean that you can't recognize what they did.. Lots of bands arent my favorite, but l can still acknowledge their accomplishments if they deserve it.

This interests me. Did someone write Zeps parts? JPJ copied another bass players riffs? Bonham was just bashing out what some other fella created for him? I mean, pro talk, that's kinda the session players life but I'm curious how they supplied no creative input into their own music. I'm not trying to incite you, I am genuinely interested in how you came about that notion. Let me say I know they have plagiarized some tunes. Overwhelming evidence clearly supports that. Still, they were counted among the best players of their time, IN their time, it was widely acknowledged by other players. Super truth, when I was a young man in the 70's I was more of a Who and Stones guy. I was late to the Zep party and it didn't last long before Floyd and King Crimson showed me the wonders of Prog. I was done for by then.
Well I ain't going to list every song they plagiarised as that would take too long but if you go to YouTube and input Led Zeppelin Plagiarism you will find the proof there. It gives a whole new meaning to "The Song Remains The Same". Amen!

Just listened to a live take of Child in time which is an early Purple tour de force.
I don't think Zep could match that live prowess so pound for pound Purple slay Zep in that regard

For me funkier, better players and more diverse.

I think Zep owned the U.S whereas Purple played all over whilst also excelling in America for a while.

On a world stage, all things considered, Purple would cover whatever ground they may have lost in the U.S.

The claims that zep gets all of their support from the US were quelled by the fact that all 8 of their major releases went to number 1 in the UK. Only 6 of them did in the US. Also, despite the obvious disregard for record sales as being anything more than an indication of popularity... roll eyes... couldn't have been that there were so many great songs that ppl wanted to play them every day and crank them at parties every weekend.. nahh.. Who did that??? ... Everyone!!

But, if Purple was so much more popular around the world, everywhere but the US.. Why have the only sold 100Million copies total of the 21 records that all the iterations of Deep Purple have made combined, during their 45 active years? And Zeppelin, who are supposedly only really loved in the US, sold 300Million copies of their 8 records with only 10 year as an active band. When you crunch the numbers a little more and see what the they really are saying, it's easy to understand why the staunch DP fan boys want to ignore them as an indication of nothing of any significance.. Each of Led Zeppelin's 8 records had average sales of 37.5Million copies. While each of Deep Purple's 21 releases made average sales of less than 5Million. Im not seeing the worldwide DP love in those numbers.. Whatever.. At this point, most of the pro Purple sentiment hasnt really been as much pro Purple as it has been bashing Page for not being squeaky clean.. Wh oevrr said he had to be. He's blues player at his core and the blues can get dirty.. it's supposed to show some imperfection. It is that kind of human-ness that the listener connects with.. The average non musician doesn't even know that he didnt play that circle of fifths as clean as Al Di Meola could have...

It is a bit of a trainwreck, I walked out of movie, bored(those ‘fantasy’ segments were BS filler), never owned the album. They were working under negative circumstances, I think a big stash of their money had been stolen, but the cameras and recording equipment were in place and paid for, so they went ahead with it. Having said that, there are bootlegs/radio shows from ‘69, ‘70, ‘71, where they are killing it. No slop, they’re on fire. I have a boot CD from ‘69 which sounds like a radio show perhaps, a little bit better than a board tape, called Another White Summer, and it’s tight, better that the RAH stuff, and I heard a King Biscuit Hour type legit show on the radio where they’re playing one of the earliest performances of Stairway. It’s too bad that any of that hasn’t been widely released. I never thought MIJ sounded all that great, it was originally meant for the Japanese market only, but like Cheap Trick’s Budokan album, it sold huge as an import in the US, so Warner’s couldn’t ignore it.

Yup, anybody doubting Led Zeppelin's firepower should listen to the live BBC tapes before drugs started hurting Page. I never could understand why they put out the Song Remains The Same.

If you havent seen the 2007 gig with Jason Bonham on drums, it was an excellent performance, tight by any standard, and especially so when you consider their age! And since it was Bonham on the drums, l consider that to be legitimate and real Led Zeppelin. They rocked that place hard and they didnt cop out and skip around any difficult jams. I think it was there intention to come back out one last time and throw down for real as Led Zeppelin to quiet all of this very type of noise that's even in this thread.

Are you kidding? If course I saw it, on a big screen, first row. Sitting with me was a long time drummer friend, he had been at the 02 for the actual concert, in fact we thought we saw him in a crowd shot. Both of us were flailing, playing air drums, being on the front row we could get away with it. Still, I don’t think it counts against the band of yore, one way or another. Too many variables. Consider this…yes, to the manner born, however Jason had been playing Zep material all his life, and while he was 41 when he did the show, he was not a 32 year old out of shape alcoholic mess(if he’s had substance problems, I have no knowledge). They hadn’t been on the road, were all rested, and had ample time to rehearse/prepare, and then perform in a very controlled environment(they learned their lesson from Live Aid, the most important one being to not have Phil Collins involved). Yes, they allowed the band to die with dignity, but had they toured, I’ll bet they would have had some bum nights. The key was lowered on a few songs, because Plant, understandably, could not hit the high notes like in the good old days. They cut the jamming down because they had a lot of material to cover.

Haa It's not easy for a 30 year old singer to cover most of Plant's vocals. So therr's no shame that he even stumped himself revisiting the stuff that made him the rock and roll legend he is today. It took a set a brass balls for a sixty something year old Plant to sing the stuff he made when he was twenty something.. and he pulled it off too.. JPJ said that Jason was playing fills that only JPJ and John would have known. Jason said he picked them all up playing along with every live bootleg tape he could find on the internet. Page said he could tell he had his father's blood in him. They billed that show as Led Zeppelin that night and they said that they actually let Jason into the band. He wasn't a guest drummer! That's The poopie! Haa l didn't say poopie.. the site censored me loll

I probably mentioned this before, but I dig what Plant has done with his career since 1980, first with the very underrated Robbie Blunt onto his current world-beat-ish material. A true artist, always growing.
Principle Of Moments is my favorite of all his solo works. Thru w the two step, horizontal departure, big log.. just a few from what l can recall from 35 40 yrs ago.. he had a record from about 15, 20 yrs ago?? with a song calld Darkness Darkness.. excellent song, there was also a trippy Hendrix cover from what l remember.. his solo stuff is very experimental where almost anything can be fair game. His band is always very talented, as you would expect. And there are a lot of things in his solo stuff that you can hear the same flavor in some zep songs that tell you it was his idea that they fleshed out. I think All of My love is one that l heard it in..

I love the fact that this is still going and there’s only 1% in it. So far all we’ve learnt is: Led Zeppelin are bigger on sales, Purple where all round better musicians (Bonham aside). No they aren’t! Yes they’re are! I’m right, you’re wrong. No, you're wrong, I’m right!

Hall of fame stuff!
