On my Jaguar, the Series adds a large dose of mids, across the whole mid spectrum. It basically fattens everything from the lows, to the mids themselves, and up even into the highs. The Jag in parallel mode already has more mids than many jazz basses I've picked up in stores, but that series switch is like letting off the leash. they are fairly open sounding pickups, too.
Rotos SB66 both steel and nickel versions really compliment the Jag pickups well. I hope they didn't change them. I'm interested to find out if these new jags will indeed have a different radius or and thickness, or not. Just for curiosity sake.
*I've also always found the comments on the jag pre-amp interesting. Now, I've not had the chance to use many active pre-amps, but this one is very transparent. and by that I mean, switching to the active circuit yields only a very small change in the overall sound when its flat. Its almost the same. Which I would think would be ideal to some people, that its effectively just a boost, an extension. Now the boost is too generious and the wheels are really easy to turn, so its easy to crank up into super dub lows. But the pre-amp itself seems to me to sound fine. but at the same time, since its basically the same sound, I never use it. So maybe it would be cool if it made a drastic change, so you'd have even more variety in one bass guitar.
P.S. I don't miss a blend option for the pickups at all. I generally find I either want one, the other, or both, on any bass.
