Is punk dead?

Whatever gets called punk rock today is just viewed as kids being kids. It is neutered, and not shocking or a threat to anyone or anything.

All IMHO, of course.

To be honest, Anti-Flg and Bad Religion scare me with some of the things they say. not really scare just unnerve. Great bands and songs. Just full of "oppresion hate"

Good point!! But you need to go a bit further back. Even The Ramones needed a starting point, and that was The MC5. It dosen't get much angrier than "kick out the jams, motherf****r!

in the end I think we all feed off each other. and punk has split into many facets just like rock has over the years. I still play Oi to this day, though Ive been seen at local cover shows playing green day covers :hiding:. I think the only thing dead are the minds of those not willing to accept just because they don't like it doesn't mean its crap.

Punk is dead because you can only write so many 3-chord songs about sniffing glue and messing up the system.

I mean, it may be in permanent state of zombie-hood, but it's still dead.

Umm, i'll give you that there is only so many 3-chord songs you can write. However, punk was about bringing up problems with society, the government, etc. Its about making people think, get angry. I wear a bad religion shirt around(with the cross x'ed out) and people who don't know who they are get offended. But that is the punk genre. I still say its alive. And even if the only bands playing are only "punk influenced" then that really goes for all music genres doesn't it? every band is influenced by one band or another.
watch the documentary "American Hardcore". the bands interviewed said hardcore punks was dead. Yeah, traditional punk rock and hardcore punk are dead, but their influence lives on in the punk bands of today. but their are so many sub genres of music catagories that who knows whats what anymore. So being that their are still bands playing punk, even if they're only "punk influenced", i'd say punk is alive.
