ISIS...

So i just got tickets for Isis' last show...ever (which im thoroughly ****ing excited for), and i got to thinking.... what does Jeff use on his board?

To be honest i haven't searched much around here for it, but i haven't seen a lot of talk of him.

Anyone?

p.s. Who else is going to Montreal to see them for their final show?

It'll be my fourth Isis show. I love 'em to death, but I already got the night of the 22nd off to hit up the local show. Honestly, I'd rather leave that slot open to someone who hasn't seen them before.

It'll be my first (and last i guess), and im looking forward to it, i've heard they put on quite a good show; better be for a six hour drive.

Thanks for the pics and chain guys, thats exactly what i was looking for.

seems they've accomplished all they wanted to.

It's a good way to finish i think, rather than raping the dead horse and coming up with ****** music.
Agreed. Let's all hope they don't pull any of that reunion **** in 20 years. :smug:
...and your butt better be in LA on the 5th, boy! ;)
Oh snap son, I think I might have to be there. Top 5 concert band right here, folks. Magic medicine, shamanistic cure.

Saw them for the 4th and final time last night at the Casbah in San Diego. Jeff's tone is fairly unique and the amount of depth to his single note picks are awesome (chorus, delay, tremelo, pitch shifting...). I love the fact that the bass in their mix is so prevalent and out in front.

A good musicman bass and and big bad mama jama rig from Aguilar goes a long way. I've always wondered though why he goes with Boss effects.

cause I am a gear snob and I believe there are higher caliber pedals that he could utilize.

Yes you are - is that something to be proud of?

And yes, there are 'better' alternatives to the pedals that he uses, but who cares? The music is great and the band has had tremendeous succes over the years. So if Boss pedals works for him, why change it?

In fact, it could actually be an advantage. If most of his Boss pedals crapped out on him, he could get a direct replacement very quickly no matter where in the world he was playing.

Actually, not necessarily. At least as far as the PS-3 and his RV-3s go, those are relatively unique pedals. The only thing I can think of that can do everything the PS-3 can do is the Pitchfactor, which just came out a year or two ago. And the RV-3 has both Reverb and Delay together, which is only really done by a couple other pedals out there (one of them being the RE-20, another Boss pedal).

I'll grant you that the Tremolo and Flanger have alternatives, but quite a few guys around here really like the BF-2. And that basically just leaves the tuner and the EQ, and I've never understood why people go boutique for those two things personally. A tuner is a tuner is a tuner to me.

I am not "proud" of being a gear snob (neither is my wallet), however, I do enjoy nerding out on tech and off shoot builders and stuff the general public is not familiar with. Jeff has a great sound, so the Boss stuff is working for him. What I am trying to say is if I were in his shoes and was part of an amazing project like Isis that has some money and the ability to be endorsed, I would have gone more boutique and off the wall than a Boss pedal.

IF his Boss pedals are all circa made in Japan era and unique pieces like the PS-3, then I can get behind it. Looking at the Amplification Isis uses (Aguilar, Fryette/VHT, beat to s**t cabs/boutique cabs...) and the crazy Electric Guitar guitars they are playing on, one would just assume they would have more unique effects gear than something you can get from just about any music shop.

As to Nerotic's reply of "why change it?", I'm not saying to change it. The first time I saw his board after a show, I was shocked that he WAS getting those tones from Boss. TB has opened up my eyes to all the amazing pedal builders of the world and thats why I "always wondered why he uses Boss", with all the other flavors out there.
