Hello everybody :)!

I am wondering what your preference for storing your favorite instrument is. Do you keep your bass on a stand, or in a case? Does it hang on your wall?

Mine stays on a stand but I am beginning to wonder if maybe that could have a small negative pressure on the back of the neck. Would I be better off buying a case for it to lie down in? What do you choose and why?

  • Bass lives in its case right next to the guitar stand as it doesn't sit well on the stand.
  • Guitars live on a multi-stand dependent on how much they are used and live in their case in the garage when not in regular use.
  • The kids new Matons, due to them being the first high-end instruments owned and seriously loved by them, are currently living in their cases which are stored on the guitar stand for ease of access.
If I wasn't in a rented house I'd have at least 6 or more hangers for the guitars and bass to get them off the floor.

I have 5 hangers in my home office / music room. My VM fretless Jazz is always one one as the knock around bass. 2 of the others are for basses and hold whatever I am using for practicing at the time. The one that stays in the case is my ABG as winter can get very dry here so I don't hang it.

Nothing sits on a stand unless it is directly related to a practice session. My dog's tail is a perpetual motion machine and I think she could knock a bass off the stand.

The more I see a Fiesta Red J Bass, the more I want one! Nice collection Mark. Getting back to the discussion, I keep my 3 basses and Epi Casino on Hercules floor stands and I've never had an issue with the neck or neck joints.

Thanks! I highly recommend the Road Worn Jazz basses. Outstanding instrument in every way!! I wanna get a RW Precision as well!

On a different note mark beem,I don't suppose you have come across performers by the name of Eric Erdman or Kristy Lee in Alabama have you? Friends of mine here in Australia who perform by the name of "The Hussy Hicks" have done quite a few gigs and festivals with these folks over there. They are usually in Mobile which is quite a distance from you I gather.

Learnt the lesson about finishes fading in UV light, so I have 4 basses hanging in a closet (with the doors closed, obviously), 1 is in its hardcase and 1 is at my luthiers being restored (but would otherwise also be in its hardcase).

And I will join the list of those suggesting a stand/hanger has no affect at all on the neck of a bass. Strings and truss rod are carrying the load.
