• Bass lives in its case right next to the guitar stand as it doesn't sit well on the stand.
• Guitars live on a multi-stand dependent on how much they are used and live in their case in the garage when not in regular use.
• The kids new Matons, due to them being the first high-end instruments owned and seriously loved by them, are currently living in their cases which are stored on the guitar stand for ease of access.

If I wasn't in a rented house I'd have at least 6 or more hangers for the guitars and bass to get them off the floor.

I know nothing of the climate where you are; however, I would caution against storing an instrment in the garage. The contstant temperature and humidiy changes will, over time, destroy an instrument. They should be in a climate controlled environment with as close to 50% humidity as you can get it and a temperature range you would be comfortable in.

Mine I keep in cases. I usually have one on a stand to keep me from skipping practice because I don't want to have dig a bass out.
For those of you who are wall hangers, It is not a good idea to hang them on an exterior wall. Exterior walls will suffer more temerature change than interior walls.

In her case waiting to get that new B string put on that popped as I was changing it last weekend. I just got the new string in yesterday so after today she will be sitting on her stand next to my rig in the music room.

If it's going in the car: hardcase

If I'm walking somewhere with it: old military duffle.

Thanks Gully! I've always been drawn to oddballs and underdogs. Thought the Kawai was an Alembic (of course) when I first saw it in the shop...wasn't in the market for a bass, but after a few minutes dorking around with it I asked the shopkeep where the nearest ATM was. The Performer was something I'd never heard of, and I'm not generally a Fender fan, but between it being kind of a red-headed stepchild in the Fender saga and it being so sweet to play, I snapped it up.

I only very recently put the basses on the wall- like others, I want to play them more and this will help remind me. Of course I also like to admire my trio of sexy-ass basses! I don't think a day passes that I don't give them admiring glances when I pass through that room.

One small side-observation about stands. I don't know if they make these stands, but back in the '90s I had a couple of generic stands that had latex tubing on the contact-areas. I put a hand-made ABG with a water-based finish on one of these stands and the finish and the tubing got stuck to each other. So don't use stands with latex tubing on them with instruments that have water-based finishes.
