I haven't tried Nordstrands, but I bought Dimarzio Model Js on the strenght of recommendations on this thread. They are being installed locally as I write this. I think (hope) they will be lusty enough to suit my unrefined tastes.

They have a own cool vibe and I had a pair in 70's jazz that had. No pre with and the mids cut through 2 guitars well (IME).
PS Your gig sounds good...I dig cissy strut

I just ordered some 70's wind Nordy single coils.

They should be here in a couple of weeks.

I'll post a review after I get them...

Cool...I have slightly duller swamp ash Jazz that came to life with the 70s wind.

What are you putting them in?

Hi guys. sorry if this has already been asked and answered a lot of times but there's so many pages to look into.

I want to change my jazz bass (not fender or squier) pickups cause they are no good. So between the DIMARZIO DP149BK or the FENDER NOISELESS JAZZ SET wich is the best.

are the pickups all of the same size or different sizes?

thanks

Hey Guys,
what would be your choice for a fat warm and thik tone? A lot of Bass, pumping low-mids and soft highs? I hope you know what I mean, its not easy to describe.
The Neck-PU should sound a little bit like a Precision (sure not 1:1), the Bridge-PU should not sound too dry and bony...
I thought at the Nordstand NJ4 60s Set and SD Antiquity IIs?
I play a Fender Jazz Bass Made in America in 2004, mostly with LaBella Flats or DR Highbeams
Thanks for your help!

I had Nordstrand NJ4SVs and really liked them. I picked up a set of Fender CustomShop 60's and like them a little better. I also have a P-Bass that I put together and the Jazz closes the P sound very nice. I also use DR Flats.

just replaced the stock pickups in my MiM Jazz V with the Fender SCN pickups from a USA Deluxe Jazz V. Quite a difference, they aren't quite as bright, but have a much fuller tone, and still good punch. I replaced all the wiring, pots and jack as well. The SCN Pickups have a radiused pole profile, and have good response on all strings. Did a quick setup and fixed the intonation and it sounds great!

I know this thread has been around for awhile, but just wanted to give a shout out to Smash... Man, almost seven years later and your thread is still helping people like me. Thanks for all your info/hard work! I've only made it through page 5 of this thread so far (will read more of course), but Nordstrand NJ5Fs are at the top of my short list, more than partly due to your review of the NJ4's.

I've never been much of a modder, never had much of a desire to change anything on my basses. However, I recently put an Audere JZ3 in my USA Jazz V and now I've gotten the itch to tinker with it. I'm *this* close to pulling the trigger on the Nordstrands, thinking about a Badass V bridge (but I don't think they're string-thru? I emailed them, but if anyone knows for sure...) and a super secret special project in the works for it. :ninja: It's gonna be SICK if it works out the way I think it will!

Anyway, thanks again Smash. VERY helpful thread!

I contacted Seymour Duncan about having some Antiquity II's wound to the same specs as Narud's.

They said it would take 2 to 3 weeks and cost $240.00.

I would love to have some, but not that badly.

I have some Fender 70's series on order...

dont get them made to order. thats whats costing the all the money. just order any set from a dealer and if they dont match, send them in. they can pull some of the winding off. you wont have to worry about getting a set thats wound under what i got because my set is about as low as they usually pop up. call the custom shop and ask for mj. hell, pickup a used set on ebay. the custom shop was very helpful to me on more than one occasion.
