I believe the riff, melody and lyrics were originated up by a drunken Bonham. Other members may have refined it into a real song though.

I think it's a little ironic that such pointless and pretentious arguing and mudslinging is going on under a banner that says "Uniting the Low End..." on it.
It all sounds like good music to me. Both Zeppelin and Cream have had a profound impact on my life. I respect them for that. Without one or the other, I definitely wouldn't be the same. What's the point of arguing over what's better (Hendrix/Zep/Cream/etc.) when it's all about taste and mood. I certainly don't mind if you (or I) don't like something, but my opinion is by no means definitive...so why be obtuse about it?

Ok so after 11 pages of discussions on this matter I was surprised of all the responses. I know everyone swings from someone’s nuts as to who has influenced them on bass playing. Its the Ford, Chevy Dodge argument. My only issue was that after Jack had his medical problems in an interview years ago he seemed to have a bit of humility.

Jack's always been out there. On one of his solo albums, after Cream, he's on the front cover cramming "wieners and mash down his gob" (that's mashed potatoes and sausage down his throat). ...... So, I don't think Jack cares how his PR is perceived.
But it does show how much he's maintained his sense of humor.
Led Zeppelin was always looked upon as a bit of a joke band.
After their very first gig, I think it was Keith Moon that walked up to Jimmy Page and said; "You guy's will go over like a Lead Zeppelin." That's where they got their name. (Which is a play of the phrase 'lead balloon'.) Because, as we all know, lead balloons don't fly.

And let's not forget that Jack played every instrument on there, except for electric guitar and drums. And he claims to have written all the music IN ONE AFTERNOON.
Believe me, I do appreciate John Paul Jones's musicianship and versatility, but Jack has extraordinary talent.
Yeah, an incredible album. Can't believe I ignored Consul and Folk Song. Think I'll put that album on now.
I agree with you there on Clapton's ego problem. Judging by some of his music from the past 20 or so years, it seemed to me he had been asleep! (*ahem Wonderful Tonight) Clapton knows that even if he got up there and belched into the mic for 2 hours, he'd still pack arenas and sell records! Cause he's ERIC CLAPTON!
However, does Jack play and sing like he used to? No. Hes 65! Of course he doesn't play/sing like he did in his 20's. I think a lot of people expect bands to sound the same way they did 40 years ago then get dissapointed when they dont. It's just not possible. No Robert Plant can't sing "Achilles Last Stand" they way he used to. Of course Ian Gillian can't sing "Child in Time" like he did 35 years ago. And sure, Jack Bruce can't sing "White Room" like he did in 1968. But for 65, he does GREAT! He survived cancer and nearly died, lets cut the 'ol fellow some slack!
I've never thought of Clapton as particularly egomaniacal especially in view of his enormous talents and success and certainly NOT in comparison to other rock guitar stars.

Not to mention popularity has little to do with worth.
As has been mentioned before, Cream's musical interplay blows Zep out of the water. Those three guys really were the "cream" of the English 60's, at least in terms of musicality. Other bands may have written "better" songs, but pound for pound the first Power Trio can hold their own against anyone.
