I had put my JS3V on layaway because it wasn't supposed to be out until October...I'll email gearhounds and see if they'll charge the rest and ship it

please give a review on B string volume compared to the others using those pickups, as well as any other cool stuff you like about it.

I'll try to do it tonight, I only have a hour to screw around with it before class, then I leave to go home for labor day weekend.

im gonna sell my warwick rockbass 5 stringer and see what i can get for that. i never play that thing anyway. if i need too, im considering parting ways with my jackson C20 with EMG's also. i play it every now and again, but i mostly only play my Charvels anymore. that thing looks beautiful though. i need to own one.
naw, I'll keep the model series around. I just have to put 100-150 away every month and by the end of the year I'll own a JS3V. ( I'ts not like I can open the box tune it up and play it on stage anyway since they are rightys ) - for me just "another pretty face", but who knows it could be a very quiet preamp good for recording, and I can retire my Eliminator5 I use for recording when BEADG is needed.
It's a KB1...'99 model. (First digit of the serial # is 9. Did mistype on the "1").It has the P-bass style neck pick ups and J-style bridge pickup. From what I understand they were produced from 1994 - 2001. The KBXs were from 2001 on. I thought there were Kelly basses dating from the 80s though?
yep you got it right.. a typo will do that. the only exception was the 2002 with the 5knobs and a switch like the concerts, which I always considered the only KBX, and the rest KB1.
Technically it was the X series KBX, but the only year with the 3band eq and the switch.
You could get anything from the USA shop, that's why every now and then you see one on ebay like the early 90's concerts.
heres a 87 usa kelly neckthru that a friend just sold not too long ago

He bought that kelly from the same guy who sold me my firecrackle 3b and a black model2.
Technically it was the X series KBX, but the only year with the 3band eq and the switch.
You could get anything from the USA shop, that's why every now and then you see one on ebay like the early 90's concerts.

im purchasing my 5 string in black tomorrow. i tried to sell my warwick rockbass 5 stringer to guitarcenter today, and they offered me $150.. i know i can get more than that for that thing. but either way, im just gonna order one tomorrow and hopefully make most of the money back after selling the warwick. i can't wait to get that thing in my hands. i've wanted a 5 string jackson for a looong time now. ill post pictures when i get her.

I found this thread yesterday and thought I'd post my Jackson. I believe this is a 1985 Jackson Concert Bass Custom. I bought it new and it has been my main 4 string ever since. I have never found another bass that has similar attention to detail and clarity of sound.
The Jackson web site lists the serial number, J115x, as a 1985 San Dimas model. It is completely stock exactly as I bought it. I've never know what kind of pickups or pre-amp it has. It's got a 9 volt running has a 2 band EQ, volume and switch for bass, neck, or both. I typically play it set for both pick ups and all controls all the way up. For more of a classic "P-Bass" thump I will roll off the treble a little.
I believe it is a neck though and the binding is like none I have ever seen. The binding is cut to match each of the frets, rather than having the frets extend over the binding. This is the best sounding and playing bass I have ever found, super deep with total clarity on top.
The shop I bought it from said it was exactly like the one Micheal Jackson's touring bass player ordered. In 1985 I didn't really keep up on Micheal Jackson so I never checked it out.

the pics won't say anything more to me than I already know except what color it is.
It has the first gen pickups and 2 color bridge.
It is a maple center with poplar wings neckthru.
It has Jackson OEM pickups with a JE2000 preamp.
It has the old larger head and open tuners.
It has the Jackson finned FB instead of the Charvel dot board.
It is not a "custom", just a USA P/HB that a lot of similar units got.
that's about it for that bass.
my binding is the same I'll go pull it off the shelf and post a pic later.

very careful attention to detail in all respects for the highend units. They never need TR adj from the weather, they always stay in tune, and the only neckthrus I have currently are a 88 and a 94 but both are still "pull out of the case and jam" units.
