Ok. I got a cache of records from a buddy of mine whose uncle had excellent taste in Jazz, fusion and soundtracks (of all things); and I came across a band called Shadowfax, which is Gandalf’s horse from LOTR. They are AWESOME! I got the album Shadowdance in this batch of records and I ended up going down a rabbit hole of their music. My daughter found two more albums on vinyl at my local Half Price Books and I’m loving the music. It’s categorized as “new age” but it’s just great fusion with keys.

Tehered Moon plays Kurt Weill. Mp3 - Laptop - Soundcard - Studio Monitors, triangled sitting.

How could I miss this trio for such a long time, why nobody had told me about them. I’m on a Gary Peacock binge and everything he does (not) play here is most fascinating, Paul Motian sounds like a prodigious child and Kikuchi from outer space. Very different trio playing. I cannot wait to put their other records on in the next nights.

I've had this trio on a lot lately. So good.

Wes Montgomery comes to mind. Give me "Smokin' at the Half Note" over and over and I'll be happy. Most of his records are overly lush bands or orchestras. The other issue with jazz guitar is that it offen involves organ and no bass. I'll admit that's a groovy sound, but ...you know...bass...

Same issue with jazz vocalist from that era. Tough to find a lot of things like Nancy Wilson with the Cannonball Adderley Quintet or Johnny Hartman with John Coletrane Quartet. Most were recorded with orchestras or big bands.
