Double Bass Jazz - Now Playing

Been on repeat lately, adding to my duo’s setlist at the suggestion of the guitarist. Really like it more and more each time I listen to it. Such a fun melody to play. I also like Dan Wilson’s version.

Yes....I would put this composition up against most 20th century Tin Pan Alley tunes in terms of (Harmonic/Melodic) complexity, accessibility, and beauty.
Yeah, I said it!
IMFO.
Here is my sketch from decades past...
Thx.

There’s a Rick Beato video out there where he dissects a PM tune (forget which one) and the chord structure was mindboggling, to me at least. Yet PM’s tunes sound so simple on a casual listen, probably because of the melodies.

People who consider him a lightweight need to listen harder.

Challenge Accetped!
Is it the tune "Spur of the Moment"? A Blues in F. (below)
I just listened and counted/felt/chanted thru the tune and they stay within the 12 bar form (to my earz), but they do stretch the Haaaaarrrrrmmmmoooonnnnyyyyy just a bit.
Thanks for posting this - CH sounds beautiful, as does DZ (not Dizzy) and JG.
Namaste (?)

I concede. I listened to the tune after several decades and you're right, they keep it together while stretching about as far as possible. It reminded me how great the playing is by everybody on this album and how few people I play with now who will even attempt to play as freely as this. Luckily, there are one or two.

Thanks for keeping me (kind of) sane, Bruce!
And, thanks for posting this recording, which I had never heard.
