Double Bass Jazz - Now Playing

IMG_20240427_164745245.jpg

Some of 90s most evolved kinds of jazz, tipping into a future that never came (yet). Steve Coleman is top saxophone & composer, one of the few who really got Parker. His duo album with Dave Holland is on heavy rotation regulary.

Currently listening in my car (sorry) via Spotify (don't shoot me, please). Dave Holland on three tracks, Reggie Washington plays BG on the remainder. Cassandra Wilson and Robin Eubanks also guest.

Live from Birdland in 1992. Not a great recording, but lotsa energy. Tyler Mitchell sounds excellent...when you can hear him.

1974 Richard Davis/Billy Hart with strings and percussion...some nice writing.

Really nice sides for Reggie Workman.

I wish Blue Note would go ahead and release the 1968 "Train Wreck" session that TW recorded.

People who have heard it say it's on the "out" side, but is that really so off brand for Blue Note? After all, this is the same label that decided to release Wayne's The All Seeing Eye instead of The Soothsayer back in '66.

I mean, come on, even second-rate Herbie Hancock, Jack DeJohnette, and Herbie Lewis has got to be better than first-rate stuff from some of the label's other musicians (not naming names).
