Joe dart .. Ernie ball jazz !

This signature bass is not to far removed from the Caprice, which only lasted a few years. I bought a B-stock Caprice right before the $500 price increase and honestly never really bonded with it. I know they are loved here on TB but for me it was only meh. So, this is a strange bass to me. I understand it's a little different with the p/u combination but they did offer an all ash version that was a little more money. So the wood combination was available with the Caprice. Why not offer these with actual color options, a tone knob and a non-signature price point?

I mean, what's the thinking here? The Caprice wasn't that popular so let's hope everyone forgot it exists and we'll offer almost the exact same thing with a signature for more money? Okay, I'll take two.

Dart is a cool player, though not my favorite personally.
For modern/current players killing with EB/MM basses, I'd personally rather see a Paul Bender sig.

But - what really amazes me is that although they're doing TWO Dart signature models, they never did a signature model for Flea or Tony Levin (note: I know there was a short-lived OLP Levin model, but that doesn't really count).
Two of the most successful and visible players of the last couple of decades, who basically built their sounds and personas with MusicMan basses, and neither of them
got an "official" signature bass.

I have no beef with Dart as a player - he's good, and I appreciate that he's bringing the bass out front and getting people excited.
Tim Commerford makes a bit more sense as a signature artist, though (like Dart) he rather noticeably spends a lot of his time with J-basses.

But I think very few people would try to make the case that either of those guys have done more for EB/MM's visibility than Flea or T-Lev. Or even Pino, for that matter, who basically
put the fretless Stingray on the map in the '80s with Paul Young and others.

Go figure. If I had Flea or Tony playing my basses, I'd have them up on billboards in Times Square.

Here come the "I don't know who Joe Dart is" comments again. Should probably keep that to yourself rather than act like it's a point of pride.

Oh, I'm sure there are bassists all of us are unaware of, but who may be high profile in certain circles. Anyone saying they don't know who so and so is isn't necessarily, acting like it's a "point of pride" and they certainly shouldn't be ashamed of it... ("should probably keep that to yourself")

Disagree. If you come onto a thread like this about a signature bass and you only come here to say "I don't even know who that is," you are adding less than nothing to the discussion, arguably trolling and at least opening the possibility that you are inferring that it means something, when all it really means is that you don't know anything worthwhile to contribute - so why would you take the trouble to do that unless it was some weird point of pride or you were trying to pick a beef?

Of course no one should be ashamed for not knowing who someone is. I never said that. I said they should keep it to themselves. Because it isn't interesting or valuable to the discussion. If someone wants to be that guy, fine I guess. Not knowing something is nothing to be ashamed about. Flaunting it....well, sometimes it can be.

Let's put it this way. I had a Marcus Miller bass for years. I knew he had played with Miles, but I basically didn't know who he was (because he's not Ron Carter). I wouldn't have come on a thread like this saying "I don't even know who this guy is!" It only would say something about ME, and nothing about the TOPIC. It's not valuable data in any sense of the word.

You probably won't have to wait long, in the last 18 months or so there's been the no controls bass, the only one pickup and one volume bass, now the two pickups and two volumes bass. Perhaps the next will be the new JD bass with two pickups with split coils and active 3 band EQ bass?:D;)
Actually it's been over 3 years since the first one. Time flies!
Joe Dart Sig Music Man bass

I’m sure it’s pretty nice, and I love super simple and super passive instruments, but I don’t think I’d be interested in a jazz bass with no tone control knobs…I do love the passive humbucker idea of the other Dart bass and am trying to figure out pedal options for tone control options but I don’t think I’d want that headache in a Jazz bass…
