Yes, the obnoxious tubes have been identified and removed from our lives. I have a row of the evil doers on a shelf near my test bench. They stare down at me. I think I'm keeping them to make sure I remember how rough it can get.

Currently we are shipping with Tung Sol 6SL7's, Shuguang 12AU7, EH EZ81.

All those bad tubes were from a single run out of the Shuguang factory. The especially nasty bit was that they all checked great in the shop. The trouble showed up only after being bounced around in transit. The problem ended up being poor (contaminated) solder connections inside the pins of the tubes.

Because there is no power amp in Monqiue (now) the only thing that makes uncomfortable heat is the tube rectifier. It gets hot enough that you wouldn't want to touch it. The other three tubes are always just comfortably warm.

She vents perfectly with just the rear vents open to the back. The side vents were added at the insistence of a good friend (studio engineer) who worries.

It was easier to add them to the design than have to listen to him. :)

Thanks for responses regarding the cooling. Now I'm learning about the compatibility -for lack of a better word- of my Carvin DCM 2000L power amp with Monique. I've been reading the threads on power amp compatibility for a live rig but still don't get it. My amp has a Sensitivity of 1.0 V rms @ 4 ohms and >20 K ohm balanced. I plead ignorance: what do to those 2 specs mean ? What results can I expect with using that power amp with Monique ? What tips do you have ?

These are really good articles. Well written and great efforts to clarify what is a rather bewildering world of "standards."

It would be great to hear from someone using this Carvin DCM Amp.

I say the above because after reading the Carvin Technical specification for this amp I'm confused. The Carvin documents references to Input Sensitivity don't talk about db, or even tell us if they are specifying RMS or Peak to Peak voltages when they say, "1.0V." And the reference to 4 ohms as an input sensitivity is pretty strange, since that would normally apply to output impedance.

Regrettably, I admit ignorance.

Hi Guys

I had a gig on Fri using Monique into my Acme 210 x 2 stack. Unbelievable! Monique really shines for finger funk as she gives the ghost notes a real punch that I've not experienced before. It makes it so much easier to groove away when all the articulations I'm using come through so effortlessly. I've been looking for this punch for ever, and now that I've found it I;ma happy man.

For my needs I'm probably going to run Monique into another pre with more extensive EQ (a MPP -2). This will give me a few more options for EQing to different rooms etc while being transparent when the EQ is off. It doesn't hurt to have some extra gain available as well. For the record this is just me being pedantic and over the top because the tone and punch I'm getting from Monique are amazing.

I'm one very happy camper!:hyper::hyper::bassist::bassist::cool:

Cool. Keep spreading the love.

There is a case made specifically for the Monique you have. It is on shown the website. I will have a new batch in stock later this week.

Also, she fits nicely into a Military Surplus Night Vision Goggles case. It takes a bit of whittling of the foam, but for about $80 those are a pretty good deal. Not nearly so pretty, but they do work.

That was a very fun get-together. Great bunch of people. I certainly had fun.

The room was set up very well too. Everyone seemed to get good opportunities to play and listen.

Ah yes, "Punch."

Thanks Ben. I'm beginning to understand that Monique folk appreciate that sensitive "attack" more than I understood earlier.

I got to watch it live this weekend at a (very fun) TB get-together. As folks played I get to watch their face change as I tweaked the "Sensitivity" back and forth. Kind of a "smile" knob.

I got one of these and some foam from Hobby Lobby it works great but had to take handles off Monique..Invalid Link Removed
