Right. Easy to split into L and R channels. But how does one split a mixed down stereo channel into the six original discrete channels from the H6, each preserving original inputs? What I'd really love is a simple input controller for 6-8 XLRs into my iPad. Starting to feel disappointed on the H6 already :(

The AT825 is quite a nice mic. It's seen hard duty in dusty & hot climes on other continents. It's quite rugged. The way it picks up a whole drum set from 6ft away is amazing. I Velcro tied two mic cables together every two feet so to have a "snake" extension already to go at setup. I do love coincident pairing.

Yes, the AT825 is great paired with the Marantz PMD661. I recently used this combination to process audio for this outside gig video. [Sorry, used a Puma 900 and Fearless 210 for this one!] You can see the mic on a stand in front of the band:

I love the idea of taking direct live feeds off of terrific preamps like the Monique. The H6 sounds like it could be the one -- IF you can offload the multitrack recording for external post processing.

The Apogee Quartet will get you close to what your looking for. The quartet will take 4 mic or line inputs which you can record directly into your iPad. You can expand upon those inputs by adding an outboard light pipe interface as well. I believe you can get as much as 24 inputs into the quartet between analog and digital inputs.... And can all be recorded at once into your iPad. Yes, all 24 channels simultaneously.

The downside of this option.. Price. It sells for 1100 dollars and that would only give you the 4 analog ins and 6 analog outs. You would still have to lay down some cash for a light pipe interface if you wanted more inputs.

But it will record all of this into a daw on your iPad such as Auria or Cubase.

The onboard mics give you a stereo file. The other 4 inputs can either be single files per channel or you can link 3/4 and 5/6. So you can either get 3 stereo files or one stereo file and 4 mono files (and can split the stereo, but not sure why you'd want to as it is an x/y setup and is your true stereo field for the location).

It is really a slick little device. And getting back on track, taking the DI feed out of Monique and recording that along with the ambient makes for great recordings. Often it is hard to get enough bass in an ambient feed and this makes it so you can bump it up in post.

How is the build on this? I found that Zoom's products to be built cheap and not so roadworthy, hence the cheap price point, or perhaps they cut corners on the A/D converters. It does sound pretty slick for the price.

I'm getting excited, it is nearing time that I will be receiving a package from California!!!

Jule, I hope things are going well for you. The anticipation is building. Got my SKB case. Got my power amp. Got all new cables.

I know there has been a lot of discussion here about cases for Monique, Minnie, etc.... (I presently have a CPAP bag with foam inserts for my Monique). Not sure if anyone has ever mentioned the company MCM electronics. I use this company to purchase electronics such as caps, resistors, etc for repair, but just stumbled upon a plethora of cases they offer at crazy affordable prices! They have hard waterproof cases with air pressure relief for air travel for as cheap as 10 dollars as well as many soft cases!

My employee purchased the Duratool Waterproof case for some recording equipment for 30 dollars. This case measured at 20"x14"x8" and came with diced foam as well. It isn't a pelican case, but if you carry your own equipment, you wouldn't have to worry. It also has a rubber seal around the rim. Pretty sweet.

Anyhow, I stumbled upon this soft case I think I may buy for $25. You would be able to fit Monique and a micro in it (such as a Minnie, Puma, etc) and it has outside storage pouches. I'm just not sure if the inside compartments are removable. I have to confirm that. Here is the link to the bag.

So its seems that the compartments are not removeable in the case I listed above. It is so reasonably priced that I purchased it anyway to see if I can modify it for my Monique / Puma 900.
