Jule Amps Monique part 4

Goofing around on a riff tonight. A gothy little vibe. EQ flat, sensitivity at 4o'clock, plucking near the neck finger-style. Timing isn't great, but not bad for a recovering quadriplegic. The cut sounds H.U.G.E. through my NAD/B&W system, so I hope the web does it justice.

After planning my Dovecage/Minnie setup for a while, I jumped on the recent rackmount De-Monique in the classifieds. I may still go Dovecage down the road, but I'll be in the studio in a month and this is instant gratification at its finest! Out for delivery tomorrow!

I have had my Monique rack mount now for several weeks. To sum up the time since it arrived:

WOW!!!!!

I haven't posted in a while, basically because I have been very busy, so every spare minute I have had has been spent playing through Monique.

I started to post the other night about my Monique experience, however it got long winded, so I decided to post my experience thus far on my new blog. You can read about it [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].

In short, all of the posts on TB convinced me to purchase Monique sight unseen. But the posts can not convey just how great Monique sounds. You really have to experience it.

Jule Potter has got to be one of the most thoughtful, humble, nicest person on the planet. Mankind could take a lesson from this talented individual!

I could go on and on (as I generally do) but I'll stop and say, thank you Jule for your talent and for Monique!

Its funny that you hear the sensitivity control as a subtle change. For me, its a pretty huge difference even within about a quarter of a sweep...but all ears are different. I'm glad that the Monique lived up to everything that we've been saying about it. The other night I used my Kern for about 10 minutes before wanting to move back to my Monique...Some tones are just greater than others and some feels are just more inspirational.

True. Very seldom do I gig without my own amp, often even if someone offers theirs or there's provided backline. As I was loading my 2 cabs and my rack and big bag of cords and such last night for tonight's gig, after round tripping 45 minutes to the practice room rather than use my home backup, it made me ponder on how far you'll go if you're dedicated to sounding good on stage.

Haha. Yeah I did a rehearsal with my Puma 900 which sounded great, but I was missing Monique. :(

Did another rehearsal with my Aggie th350 and I was miserable. :( :( :(

But I have to say, when I used my walkabout, I missed Monique, but not nearly as much as when I used the other 2 amps. That walkabout is still a killer amp, not Monique, but I was happy playing with it.

That is what is so different about Monique. Actually subtle is not the word I should have used. You are right, a small adjustment makes a big difference. You can go from very clean tube tone to a driving tone easily but it never sounds like too much.
I guess one would say that it is just very musical and not harsh or extreme. Yeah, musical......

I guess sometimes it's hard to put the tones and sounds in words........

Yes, I'd agree that all the controls are totally useable, and that none of the sweep of any of them is 'beyond the pale' of what sounds good. Its sometimes surprising to note that those EQ controls have 20db on each side of center...in most amps those kind of EQ sweeps would be really ugly in the extremes.

yeah, it all sounds useable. but, when recording, you sure can see the track level move when you boost the bass, so i'm pretty comfy those 20db numbers are reasonable.

I did a rehearsal last night and we worked on some new funk, metal and other genres.

I figured I would bring out the big pedalboard to have some fun as I rarely use effects. I was using an envelope filter, distortion, boost, octave, bass wah and chorus.

Monique plays REALLY nice with effects.:bassist: My band was shaking heir head when they saw the pedalboard, but they thought the effects added a ton to the tunes and sounded great thru my amp.

Jule, you may have created a monster.:hyper:

Its sort of how it also works nicely when pulling diads and triads and holding them. Lots of amps don't handle it well and it sounds muddy and messy and sometimes discordant, but the Monique just eats them up, especially if you have your sensitivity set to the left of center.

Triads, chords, octaves, arpeggios, etc. work great for me and I tend to leave the Sensitivity at 3:00.....

Over a year with Monique and haven't looked at another amp since.

I thought the Darkglass and fEARful fanboys were over the top.... I am likely worse with the Monique love.:p Such a great product.
