Jule Amps Monique part 4

I turn my lo, mid, hi and sensitivity all the way to the right, and I pull the sensitivity knob to boost it. Since my bass is active, depending on the volume on the bass, this will overdrive the amp. I turn my volume down just below this point and use the line level to set the overall volume. This gives me a very saturated, rich tone. Sorta like Jamerson on the Jackson 5's 2-4-6-8.

As I've said in my limited contributions to this thread, Monique is not eq dependent. You can run the bass and hi flat and crank the mids and she'll sound good. Most amps would sound honky at that setting, but Monique is simply more forward and present.

I love not having to mess with my amp to get a good sound. In the past, I'd find a good tone, then a few days later I'm twiddling the knobs trying to find a good tone again. It's like the amp trolls come out at night and mess with your gear. There's none of that with Monique; you can't pull a bad tone out of her.

I have never tried those cabs, but I would expect warm/tight/quick/articulate is accurate. It has been for me with all of the different cabs I have owned this year.

How long can we expect the original set of tubes to last before one or some or all of them need to be replaced ? If, for example the original set lasts 8 years, then we simply retube as needed at that time ? Will those types of tubes still be available in 8 years ?

In my case, I'd be shopping for a De-Monique. I'd rather think of this as the last amp I'll want and or need to buy for a very long time.

Unless a tube fails mechanically, you shouldn't need to replace them regularly. That's usually the territory of power tubes, not preamp tubes. If it fails mechanically, you'll know right away. :bawl:

I realize I didn't answer this too effectively.

The EQ is friendly to the extremes of each control's sweep. I have pushed the mid control nearly full up and not have it be obnoxious.The manual for Monique states:
"Each of the three knobs of the Monique equalizer gives you approximately 20db plus on the
right side of the knob, and 20db minus on the left side of the knob"

But the reality of the tone that the controls don't seem so extreme. If that makes sense. When I have the bass set at 2 or 3 o'clock it doesn't feel like I'm boosting 8-10db.

Some of the real mojo of the unit is that sensitivity control. CC of noon it becomes clean and pristine with detail and less compression. To the clockwise of noon position you add what to me feels like 'more tube' characteristics, more compression, harmonic distortion and complexity more of that elastic feel that you get from a big power tube amp. Not distortion, not grind or breakup, just more of what I'd consider 'ideal' about "all tube" amp tone.

I have owned over a dozen tube amps over the last 25+ years and have had preamp tubes go twice. Once in a Hiwatt and once in an Ampeg SVT. Boh times it was one bad tube. $15-25 later I was back in business.

I find power tubes go more often and even they tend to last many years IME.

I ordered an extra set of tubes from Jule just in case (I live in Canada and shipping to Cali is a pain in the ass).

Also, I wouldn't worry about the tubes in a monique being unavailable in the future. Not really oddball stuff and readily available.

Initial impressions:
All I can say is wow! I'm ecstatic !
Paired the TardisDe with the Audiokinesis Hathor 1544 using my BassLab Soul V and my passive P5.( 2 Skjold's to come)

Plugging in after setup I started with the passive P5 strung E to C. I loved what I was hearing. Its musical richness and dynamic sensitivity immediately came to mind. I had a mental sigh of relief as if I was coming home after a long journey.

The active Soul V came alive, as did the P5,and it's poetical nuances were realized with this wonderful product.

I won't attempt to describe what has been so eloquently identified by others. Suffice for me to say I am extremely encouraged by what I'm hearing so far. My journey of discovery continues.

A sincere heart felt shout out and thanks to Jule for his patience and kindness.

It really is a hard question. Some tubes will last longer than me. Others won't. I expect the tubes in Monique to last for many years. There have been tube failures that have occured in spite of my 24 hour initial burn-in, but they are extremely remote possibilities.

The vast majority of failures happen early. Once you've got a few gigs on Monique, she should keep on running for years.

As I've mentioned before, some of my studio friends (I'm thinking of guitar folk) insist on an "original" set of tubes and I know of some tubes that have been in some heavy, almost daily action for more than eight years.
