Jule Amps Monique part 5

You KNOW I'd find that interesting. More FYYAH. That's the sweetspot for my gigging needs. Lots of us (especially using 'supercabs' like Greeboy, AK, Barefaced) can utilize that kind of firepower.
OK. Now the details begin to require a bit more focus of me.

I can do 1400 watts. In the same enclosure (yet to be finalized) I can also do 2400 watts.

Is 2400 watts too much?

Are you thinking two channel or single channel? Either way, I'd be in! ...and, available in a Bamboo version...just outrageous!drool
This would be single channel. I know there is a need for stereo amps too, but right now I'm just thinking single channel. The complexity of two channels is real.

I'm guessing that 'your' 1400w are probably RMS or similar? Unlike people who list burst or peak power? Because most of the 'big' class D production power amps that people around here are using (Crest, Crown, Peavey) with supposed 1500-3000w ratings are rated at peak/burst/pixie power. So in reality they're probably closer to the 1400w that you're offering once we remove the obfuscation. While I never stop anyone from sweet sweet excess, I wonder if a 'true' 2400w amp would just be a hazzard to most people's speakers.

What's your take?

No

700 is enough

2400 is not too much.

I would love to see a 2 ohm load, don't suppose that is possible?

Also still interested in a Dove Cage/M700 combo.

FTFY :D Actually the 700 would do me just fine. Been hoping for an integrated Dove Cage/700 for a while now. But as far as the 1400, bring it on!

Thank you.

My "brilliant" idea for the integrated Dove Cage/700 watt amp proved to be a bit like Baldrick's "Cunning Plans." Point being the final enclosure was not what I expected after all the time and energy spent. The pace of current production has not allowed me to go back and redesign that product. Grateful I am. Schedule challenged I am.

Your concern is mine.

This last year, we have begun to work with several touring bands doing stadium events. That (and some strong suggestion from player/friends) has gotten me to consider MEGA power.

Yes. This is a true RMS 2500 into 4 ohms and 1600 into 8. Will work down to 2. The peak power is terribly silly. As I have learned (before Greenboy) it is pretty easy to blow up speakers - even with 500 watts.

I wonder if there is significant difference between the caution at 700 watts and the caution at 2500?

Hey Dominick! Good to "see" you.

This new Hypex is capable of 2 ohms too. Safely runs there and gives us 2000 watts at 2 ohms.

Gives me goosebumps. :hyper:

The caution may be the same, but the wiggle room is less. ;) I don't believe that there's a need for 2400w RMS in the bass amp world. There's no speakers that can handle it and as someone who's probably using a power amp that's in the 1300~1500w range right now, I can honestly say that the excess of power isn't usable for nearly any bass player.

Oh, really?!?!? :wideyed:
Working pretty actively with Hypex. Now there is a 2500 watt.

Cool. Thank you for your counsel.

I think there really aren't that many production cabinets that can take that kind of power. Even the super-cabs that are somewhat popular here can't eat up 1200 RMS.
Speakers made for stadiums and concert halls require this much power. I am ignorant of others. When I get all the "bits" here in the shop, maybe the solution is to offer graduated 700, 1400, 2500 amps? Stand alone chassis and Rack Mount Chassis.

As boring and un-musical as it might seem, the proper handling of the cooling requirements for these beauties forces design decisions one might not initially consider. Other folk allow, "an occasional over temperature shutdown." I will not allow that to happen. A couple years back, I learned some things working with good people playing outdoor events mid-summer in Austin.

I think 2 ohm stable is a feature that many want and some will use. I think that much over 1KW is something that some may want but probably none really will need or use. At that point you're cabinet limited and things could get ugly quickly.
Thank you Roger.

Wish I was closer. I'd bring the Toyota by, load her up, and enjoy the wander North with you. A bit prettier up there than the Mojave.

If the economy of scale and the power scale-ability work out, that would be a great option.

With my Barefaced Big Baby II's I've been running my Crest ProLite 3.0 in bridged mode, which puts out 3150w at 4 ohms. Not sure if it's an honest rating or not. Just food for thought.

If I had a choice between 700w, 1400w, and 2400w...depending on price I'd probably go with the 2400w.

That's ok by me Jule. I am happier than I've ever been with an amp with my Tardis 700. If you go putting the 700 into a dove cage, your just going to get me all hot and bothered again! Who needs that?:roflmao:

Honestly... it's not. That the same amp as I use (mine is branded Peavey IPR2-3000), and the wattage they list is a 'burst' rating, aka micro-second burst. It probably is again ~1300-1500w -ish.

The real tip is if you calculate the actual wall voltage and the potential wattage you can see out of that. ;) There's a good reason that Jule's 'higher power' option is 2400.
