Jule Amps Monique part 5

While we are throwing out crazy ideas..... What about a double Monique 1400? One input for each Monique with each her own power amp. Stereo Monique?

@Jule Potter I know you said stereo was a whole other deal, but you don't do this cause it's easy ;) maybe doubling up Monique would make it easier?

So Jule has my Monique rack-mount pre now. I sent it to him for the "Hypex power module insertion procedure" to make it a "Monique 700." I originally paired the Monique with a separate Crest Prolite 2.0 DSP power amp. I want to simplify my life and have the Monique and power amp reside in one, 2U rack space unit. $800 for the procedure. Looking forward to comparing it to the Monique + Crest Prolite arraignment.

The caution may be the same, but the wiggle room is less. ;) I don't believe that there's a need for 2400w RMS in the bass amp world. There's no speakers that can handle it and as someone who's probably using a power amp that's in the 1300~1500w range right now, I can honestly say that the excess of power isn't usable for nearly any bass player.
My concept of headroom is allowing an amp to loaf along at 1/8th power & still be as loud as you can stand it.
Yes, the dangers are real for both speaker & eardrum damage.
I've never used a compressor, but I bet a good one could be set up to only compress on extreme peaks that might damage your speakers.
I did blow a HF driver one time by putting enough pressure on my strings with my right hand while playing in the middle of a song on a gig that the string(s) hit a pickup pole piece while running 1600W into a 1600W cab - wasn't a pretty sound!
I just think SS amps sound better when you're not pushing them close to the limits of their operational parameters.

The impression I get from what Jule says about his amp and what others have said is that because he 'downrates' and is talking RMS, his 1400w IS another maker's 3000w. It will still be coasting along at 1/8th power with plenty of room for transients. When he's talking about 2400w, that would be what, peaks of 3600w+?

The interior chassis space (real estate) to house these bits, and the required volumetric flow rate of whatever air mover is required to dissipate the heat end up forcing many other choices. For the time being ignoring the preceding two considerations, a 1400 watt bass amp might (later) be able to be split into a stereo 700 watt amp. The 1400 watt would come first.

I appreciate the opportunity to hear from you, Dominick, and the other good folk present. Much more fun than bullying well intention-ed folk in a MRD meeting (Marketing Requirements Document) to get my way. That was how it worked in the software industry.

Since we're requesting things, how about getting away from the dovecage format and maybe something more like a habitrail. So there's way more tubes.

I guess you have not looked inside yet.

My Monique is now a "Monique 700" after Jule put in the Hypex power module and associated components. Trust him when he tells you that the "700" rating is real and very conservative compared to others. Warm tube goodness together with punch and clarity...and the B string has never sounded so good. Can't wait to gig this @ 4 ohms with my GB F112 + F115 cabs.

Wow! looks fantastic. I wonder how many hamsters Jule stuffed into that thing to get it up to 700...

Hey arrowpilot

What sort of volume do you get running into just the one GB cab? Ive got 2x fEARless 115's and want to know if I could still do some gigs with the one can. Currently I'm bridging a PLX3602 which can get plenty loud even at 8 Ohms.

Cheers

Ben

I'm currently running one GB Fearless F112 and the dove cage /M700. Disclosure: I have FOH and one sub out front. That stated, last gig I had the M700 at 9 O'clock using the F112 as my stage monitor. The thump on the small wooden stage was real. That is a rock trio that is moderately loud but not deafening. IMO a small to medium room of 100-200 with no PA should be easily obtainable. Your mileage will vary depending on your band's overall volume. I'm pretty amazed at how much sound these Fearless speakers throw. Crazy output per pound, and remember, I'm theoretically ~+/- 400W at 8 ohms. That is, if I ever even bothered to crank the M700. I did max the volume once at my house, but the walls were shaking, and I didn't want my wife's China to dance off the shelves.

Pretty much what he says :)

Thank you for posting this.
Yes. That B does jump out there doesn't it? One of the first things I noticed when this 700 watt amplifier was being developed.

Good place to let everyone know the caution when using these very handy shoulder bag rack enclosures: Make sure your helpers know that if they set the closed bag on the back (that opens for ventilation) they must do so gently. The reason for the caution is that the front rack tabs can be bent if the bag is set down roughly on the back surface. We have 18 pounds supported on the two 1" wide rack ears. The ears are 1/8" thick cold steel, but it can happen. It is not the end of the world if they do get bent, but it can easily be avoided.

Does fill the room. Pretty crazy when I crank each of these up in the shop - through my F112. Thousands of screws, hundreds of metal enclosures, and every other thing that wants to get up and dance does just that. I just giggle through the cacophony.
