Jule Amps Monique part 5

I absolutely love my M700.
So I've got all my bases covered, the downside is I'm accumulating a bunch of small stuff to carry; I do wish I had the integrated racked Monique 700 rather then the dovecage and M700 when I'm carrying a pedal board, or a second bass or a music stand and books. But what the heck the DC sure is pretty.

I was going through the same dilemma as you a while back. I gigged the DC Mo / Minnie, DC Mo/ M700 for a couple of years. I found myself at times wishing I just had a Monique 700 Tardis for a one bag carry, but the DC is so darn sexy!!!

Unfortunately I could not financially justify to keep everything so I finally gave in and sold my DC Mo, and my M700 to purchase the Monique 700 Tardis. I couldn't be happier.

Yeah I know I could have purchased a combo bag for both the M700 and the DC, but even though the DC is super sexy, I just prefer the form factor of the Monique 700 Tardis.

I had both. Both sound great in their own way.

M700- much quicker response, more detailed throughout the tonal spectrum, especially in the high end. The volume pot has a more gradual increase in volume, not front loaded like the Minnie.

Minnie- less mid detail (more scooped) than the m700, and a bit darker up top than the m700.

I preferred the m700 over the Minnie, but honestly both are fantastic amps.

Mids and highs cranked, bass off, sensitivity pulled out at 2 o'clock. Unbelievable overdriven tone. You can back off the highs too. Line level pulled.

It's all so interactive, to me it's not what you'd expect from those settings.

I'll try that at this weekends gigs. Did similar EQ at last gig (except didn't pull out either knob) - passive P with flats sounded it's best ever.

How hot is the DI signal with these settings?

I bought used the Monique M700 Rack version in 3U rack case. So convenient & no worrying about damage/heat/etc. If buying new I'd have got DC/M700 for looks alone - but as a busy gigging muso it's so convenient & was the right price.

Bass off as in fully counterclockwise. It doesn't really work without the line pulled. The DI it super hot. It has to be dialed way back to 9 o'clock I'm finding if I want to play with the line out

Yep - nice tone, except I was asked to turn up the lows. I settled on Bass:11', Mids 1', Treble 3', both knobs pulled out. Had Sens 2', Master at 9'30"... loud enough for earplugs with no PA support for bass.

The last few gigs I played I had been using my Mesa Subway due to leaving from work and having to park my car in a lot in Manhattan. Didn't want to leave Mo in my trunk, hence the Mesa. The Mesa is a great amp in its own right and I have been very pleased with its performance when I'm not using Mo.

So last night I finally got use my Mo700 at a venue in Greenport Long Island called Claudio's. Mo absolutely killed last night. Every time I step away from Mo for a while and then come back I'm always blown away at how fantastic it sounds. The quickness and heft in the notes kept me smiling all gig. I got to hear it through the PA too and the DI signal literally belts you in the face in the PA Mains!

Last night I had the sensitivity pulled out and at about 1pm, everything else basically flat. I really liked the sensitivity at this setting (normally I have it pushed in and at about 10 o'clock). I found that with the sensitivity pulled out it enabled me to get a very authoritative tone with quick attack at a lower volume, which is perfect for me.

Obviously comparing Mo to the Mesa is an unfair comparison, so I am not putting down the Mesa. In its price range, the Mesa is tops. However it felt really good to get reconnected with Mo again last night, and I'm happy I will be gigging with her on many upcoming gigs I have.

Thanks Jule for making my music experience much more enjoyable. I am still gassless as far as amps go thanks to Mo!

Last night I played a blues, jam band gig. The room has a house sound guy and a backline. Hartke hydrive15 and an Lh1000 with a countryman.

I talked the sound man into letting me use my rig but it took a little salesmanship. Mo with M700 and two 210avs. As I listened to the previous band playing 80s arena rock I thought to myself in gonna sound exactly like this guy. Rig sounded great on stage, at the beginning of our second set I left the standby switch on the M700 off and sure enough compressed with a smiley face Still sounded great on stage.

This is a club that has two bands a night 7 nights a week so I guess you get the soundmans bass sound regardless.

We finished up he said next time you come bring your amp I loved it, so who knows. I even ran the Broughton HPF on my pedal board all night.

Saturday nights gig, same band & same settings.
- The balance between fingerstyle, plectrum & slap is incredible... no EQ changes needed.
- Passive P + Roto 66 Stainless = fat & clear without mud or brittle. Two thumbs up.
- Guitarist complimented me on the fancy runs I played. I normally play the same lines, but with Monique he could hear me over his Marshall 4x12 + Les Paul.

Received an email from Jule saying my M2500 was completed, so I made the trip from NorCal down to Santa Cruz to pick it up this weekend! Great to meet the genius himself, and see where the magic happens! I was really looking forward to a/b'ing this with an M700 in his shop. but he didn't have one out, that wasn't packed up to ship.

With only a few hours using it...it's very quick, attacks the front end of a note massively, even/smooth across the frequencies, but very forceful...a noticeable improvement to the bass note feel/tone, over using my Mo+XLS2502 (which is also very good, but disclaimer-I never used my XLS bridged)

Dead quiet (0 hiss) noise floor...volume control is very nice-quite linear. I like the fact that all the sockets/switch on the back of the amp are recessed/nothing protruding to get damaged...

For me, the 12s give forceful, gut-punching low-mids, fantastic lows extension, yet stay very articulate. No booming, or loose low end whatsoever...a commanding B-string tone from both my MTDs!

For me, the 10s are dialed with the Sensitivity knob still pulled/but dime'd. This Jule rig mates extremely well with the NV sealed 10s!!!

Pictures rattling on the far wall--approx 20' away (13' ceiling) in my house with the volume at 11 (HDN112 stack), with Mo line level knob pushed in, sensitivity knob pulled, every knob straight up 12...seriously, never heard a better bass tone! But most impressive is the amount of punch/presence still "felt" at lower volumes...like I mentioned, the attack is phenomenal!

Btw, I also have the combo bag (fits DC and Bamboo)...it's very padded/well made...easier to carry than I expected.

Like most everyone else, I went thru the dilemma over choosing the rack-mount vs Tardis vs DC or Bamboo/M____. I still have that debate in my head, especially if I read this thread too often! Just need to choose, and get on with playing your choice...at least that's what I keep telling myself

Yea, I had that same thought...cabs are 15" deep/48" stack, and pretty stable. But, I might try putting the amp behind on the floor, like I often did with my XLS2502.

It's pretty cool just having the Bamboo by itself on top, as I mostly use a GLX-D wireless pedal on my board...

No problems assuming you've got a level floor. I wouldn't stack it that way if I was on a makeshift stage in tent. Otherwise it's great.

Just knowing that the M2500 exists makes me smile. Since I play DB for the most part, makes it unlikely that I would ever need that much power, but it makes me feel safe knowing that it's out there.

I was poking around the Hypex website and found this little blurb.

NAD has been one of the most innovative designers of Audio systems for a very long time and now they're using Hypex in their builds. So, hats off to Jule.

Thanks for this review! I've been on the fence between an M700 and an M2500, thought the M2500 might be overkill. But based on what you said about its performance at lower volume I think I'll go with the 2500.
In my case, it'll be a Marleaux Contra 5>Monique>M2500>two GB F112s.
