Jule Amps Monique part 5

Yea, I REALLY wish I could have a/b'd an M700 and M2500 to see what differences my ear could discern. I can tell you that a/b'ing my Monique/Crown XLS2502 non-bridged (quite nice), there's a difference....seems to be something happening dynamically to the front end of the note envelope, even at low volumes.

I was concerned about too much power, too. I do prefer running cab combos at 2.67 (3xHDN112s and 2xHG310s-coming soon) so that was also a consideration...but I'm perceiving a benefit to having more power, even at lower volumes...

I usually take more cabs than "volume necessary" anyway. Now, using the M2500 at lower volumes...it seems to provide added "presence"/attack that I can feel behind me, with IEMs. Imo, ime (very brief time with it)...ymmv

Yes. The next step is to have some Rack Chassis made up to take the M2500. The plan is to make them pure power amplifiers. These will not have Monique in them. Monique and the 2500 will happen later, but that is a major redesign of the layout of Monique. Messing with something that works well is something to be done very carefully. Ain't no going backwards.

I've recently come to realize the importance of the 'high' control in terms of the transient of the sound. I had been dialing it back and the tone was starting to sag and lag a bit for my taste. So I turned it to the right and BAM, attack and quick response. I dial the tone back on my P bass to get the warmth I like. It's been months and I'm still learning how to use this thing. Who would have thought so few controls could have so many different tones! Love this amp.

I am hugely looking forward to an integrated M2500/Monique as I think it might well be my forever amp. If the Hypex module could have the DSP option as well that would be all kinds of wonderful.

Another thing I've been thinking of. After the hard sale on the soundman to take my DI, I was a bit apprehensive to run the line out pulled as the 10db boost really throws a lot at the board and I didn't want to scare him off. The testing I've done at home and into our church board where I go ampless is massive amounts of gain, reworked my sound for Saturday's upcoming church performance Saturday night I will again run things without the line out pulled. A couple weeks from now I've got a gig without PA support but still small enough for the 210AVs and there I will plan on running the lineout pulled, it gives me some colors that you just can't get with it in.

I played with the grindy tone a bit more at the last gig, mids cranked, bass at 10 oclock, highs at 2 o'clock. Those settings would likely get you fired with most amps but man it's just glorious.

Been meaning to do that, but it's hard to find a good opportunity to crank up each combination and see how it sounds in a band context. I'm only in one band at the moment, we gig about ten times a year.

This was a shot taken of the "business" end of my M700 Rackmount at an outdoor gig today. I love my DC/Minnie combo, but this rig is the easiest setup and packup rig I've ever gigged...I too, am very gas free!

My friends at Hypex are currently making changes to their DSP offering. We will have to see how that sorts out before that is a possibility.

Settings at last nights gig:
Boomy corner of room, Bb resonant freq of room. First time using Fdeck Pre-II with this rig/band.

- HPF between 40 & 70Hz (3 o'clock to noon) depending on song = Muddy room gone!
- Sensitivity up for more clarity (quicker response essential in this room), but still very tube-like.

- Mids 3 o'clock with fingerstyle, tone on P bass rolled back to half = superb blues tone, very B15-like.
- Mids 3 o'clock with pick, tone on/near full = classic grindy P bass rock-tone.
- Mids 1 o'clock for modern fingerstyle, slap, & refined pick tones.

Rig: Monique M700, Berg CN212, '69 P w/ Roto rounds.

I recently picked up a Broughton HPF pedal. It works great when needed. My Fdeck is attached to my DB. It is really a great solution to solving room problems and clearing up the stage. Depending on the situation. I have run it in line with my signal. I've also used it between Mo and the M700 to not disturb the FOH sound.

This looks like an excellent power cable. For power cables used with any Class D amplifier, the larger the wire gauge (smaller number means larger gauge), the better the experience. The The M700/M2500 cables we ship are 14 gauge. The shortness is also a good thing. Longer cables deliver less power.

Monique will run nicely on a very small gauge power cable. Experience with the M700 shows it will tolerate less-than-robust power delivery issues pretty well. Still, it is good to find the largest capacity power strips for all Class D amplifiers with this power delivery capability.

M2500 is not so forgiving of "challenging" power situations. The M2500 is best plugged directly into the wall if you want to get anywhere near the maximum power delivery. Not many power strips have the capacity to deliver 2500 watts, or even a real 1000 watts.

Jule, as you may know I am considering getting an M2500 set up for use here in Germany on 220-240V circuits. Are there any power delivery considerations relevant to this situation? Specifically, if I run a two to one IEC cable with a plug adaptor will there be any significant difference in power delivery between running it into the wall or through a power strip?
