Jule Amps Monique part 5

Bought this two to one IEC cable. Makes for an easy run with one extension cord and no power strip. Got it from bayou

That's a great solution. I should ask Butch to roll me one of those in a 7' length. It would lighten my gig bag a bit. I wonder if it's hefty enough for my IPR3000 and Monique pairing.

This looks like an excellent power cable. For power cables used with any Class D amplifier, the larger the wire gauge (smaller number means larger gauge), the better the experience. The The M700/M2500 cables we ship are 14 gauge. The shortness is also a good thing. Longer cables deliver less power.

Monique will run nicely on a very small gauge power cable. Experience with the M700 shows it will tolerate less-than-robust power delivery issues pretty well. Still, it is good to find the largest capacity power strips for all Class D amplifiers with this power delivery capability.

M2500 is not so forgiving of "challenging" power situations. The M2500 is best plugged directly into the wall if you want to get anywhere near the maximum power delivery. Not many power strips have the capacity to deliver 2500 watts, or even a real 1000 watts.

I find class D high wattage amps in general are less forgiving with voltage drop. It's also one of the reasons I tend to run bridged rather than dual mono to my cabinets. I found in rooms with questionable power delivery, or possibly with other high draw things on a circuit that my amp was prone to clipping behavior with reduced headroom. This tends to not be a problem in the same spaces when I run bridged. I also found that the lows from Monique could add to the clip situation in the infrasonic range, and that a good HPF cleared that up and had no audible impact on the tone. These days I run DSP HPF at about 32hz in the power stage so as to deliver full tonal range to the soundboard. I've found that even 'fussy' players or engineers have never picked up on the HPF hidden in the power stage. ;)

I have a 14guage extension chord when needed.

Yeah, I carry a bag that's got about 8 extension cords and another handful of strips. ;) Luckily in most gigs these days I can say "I need power run behind the bass rig" and it gets there without me resorting to my bag of tricks. Because my amp sits about 6' off the ground, a 7' cord means if I have a quad or a strip behind my amp, it's not suspended by my cords. ;)

Yea, I REALLY wish I could have a/b'd an M700 and M2500 to see what differences my ear could discern. I can tell you that a/b'ing my Monique/Crown XLS2502 non-bridged (quite nice), there's a difference....seems to be something happening dynamically to the front end of the note envelope, even at low volumes.

I was concerned about too much power, too. I do prefer running cab combos at 2.67 (3xHDN112s and 2xHG310s-coming soon) so that was also a consideration...but I'm perceiving a benefit to having more power, even at lower volumes...

I usually take more cabs than "volume necessary" anyway. Now, using the M2500 at lower volumes...it seems to provide added "presence"/attack that I can feel behind me, with IEMs. Imo, ime (very brief time with it)...ymmv
I forgot to mention that it is OK to purchase the M700 as an addition to your M2500. No stigma. ;-)

Jule, as you may know I am considering getting an M2500 set up for use here in Germany on 220-240V circuits. Are there any power delivery considerations relevant to this situation? Specifically, if I run a two to one IEC cable with a plug adaptor will there be any significant difference in power delivery between running it into the wall or through a power strip?
Yes. Operationally it will be different. Very few power strips provide the power necessary to move this M2500 to near its maximum power delivery. If a power strip is used with the M2500 it should have a rating similar to the house power.

The residual power of a power amp like the M2500 serves us very well at lower volumes. I suspect that over time that is the sweet spot for this amplifier. When the objective is to fill a stadium (5000+ audience) with sound, then the M2500 will also do that. Very nicely. Stadium Engineers already know they must provide stable AC to keep all this stuff running. I don't remember the lights ever going off for Metallica, or Rammstein.

I made a mistake in the shop last week while testing a M2500. It got blasted at close to full volume due to a brain fart on my part. Took a while for my heart to get back to anything near normal. The M2500 is not to be taken lightly.

This was a shot taken of the "business" end of my M700 Rackmount at an outdoor gig today. I love my DC/Minnie combo, but this rig is the easiest setup and packup rig I've ever gigged...I too, am very gas free!
Like the large speaker cables. Excellent way to get there.

Another great church gig with No amp. Ken Smith Brs6gn into Monique.
I talk to guys occasionally who have never tried the DI out of Monique. They are happy, and I am happy whenever Monique is in use. Still. . . :)

Thanks, Jule. All the power strips I use here are produced in Germany for use on 220-240V current, so I assume they will be OK to use with an M2500 set up for 220-240V. In any case, I will go directly into the wall when possible.

I live on the opposite coast. I heard that full volume blast. I thought, "who is playing my Monique?" I have experienced seismic activity in the past. This however was musical. :)

Apologize for me to your neighbors.

Monique has been to every gig and rehearsal I've done since I got her in February. Direct, sitting on top of the house amp or with the M700 or V4b, I also use her every night at home when I practice. I have a rare gig this coming Thursday that has no PA support, I am slightly concerned that my pair of 210Avs with the M700 may be pushed to it's limit and I'm considering pulling out the V4b and 810 cabinet for the night, it may be overkill but the gig is such that I can back right up to the loading dock. Great idea and loads of fun but I have a little bit of anxiety over leaving Mo behind, my in home testing says I prefer the V4b straight up with the 810 if I don't need a DI. :woot: 3 sets, maybe I will do one without her and the other with, give the winner the third set. But I hate to do anything that distracts from my playing.

I checked your profile. The name Rob Balducci sounds familiar from my prog rock days 20 years ago. I played with a band called Labyrinth back then.
I'll ask him about that. I have been playing with him for about 3 years. We are 3 piece instrumental. We did play at Farrels about 2 years ago. I live in Queens. Good meeting another Monique user that's local!

I have an FDeck HPF-3 inbound, and wondering where best to place it in my signal chain? Current chain is a small pedalboard (pic)>Monique Bamboo>M2500...planning to power it with a VL PP2P underneath my board.

Before obtaining the M2500, I was simply using the DSP hpf option in my Crown XLS2502...[EDIT: there's one place I'm at regularly, with only my pedalboard>Mo>DI'd to FOH (and sound guy has limited expertise on hpf'ing the mains) I'm looking forward to having hpf capability somewhere before what I send to the FOH to "help out"...]

Looks like several of you are using an FDeck with your Jule amplification, so any trial/error signal chain advice is welcomed...:)
