I am so shallow that I actually bought my DC never having heard one, just on reading this thread, seeing pictures and having £ in the GAS fund. I was trying out all the preamps at the time. Monique stayed, everything else left.
And THEN (despite the fact that I bought it second hand so Mr P had not seen a penny from me), when I had an issue with my rig which I thought was the Monique he treated me as if I had been buying directly from him for 40 years. The problem was not with the Monique anyway. That is the kind of treatment that makes me want to buy one of his power amps. The problem is that I cannot imagine a better match than my DC into my Berg IP310.

Well hearing is believing, but what I think your experiencing is the V4 going into "soft clipping" driven by a "Iron Sled" transformer". Just my take but with the rig you own the Monique/M700 should should bury the V4 provided the cabinets are the same. Just my take however, "results may vary";<)

The V4b with the gain and master at noon is very clean, certainly with tubes you can start to get into a bit of pleasing distortion past that but even at those setting it's beyond what the M700 can put out at the max.
I've swapped "heads" on a gig and at home. With an 810 the M700 can get a decent volume where the V4B if you even approach those noon settings you get those Looks from the rest of the band. The -15db input equalized them a bit more.
It's a useless debate to have as next time I see her she'll be a M2500.
I'm kinda shocked to hear that. I believe it, but from what I've always read I expected the M700 to get really loud and clean. I was always a little apprehensive about getting one because I wasn't sure it would do what I needed and I guess that kinda seals it.
I'm not sure everyone will have the same experience as me. I tend to like sealed cabs these days a pair of 210avs or an 810 is all I'm gigging. I don't know how the power would apply to any of the "super cabs".
When I had my m700 paired with mo and my audiokinesis cabs my rig was extremely loud. I never needed to dime it at all. It still is extremely loud now with my Monique 700. But perhaps I don't play as loud as some of you here.

My rig is quite different from yours, since the M700 and my Audiokinesis TC-112 gets as loud as my DB could ever go, without feeding back. To each his own. There was a M2500 up for sale in the BG classifieds that I almost pulled the trigger.

I've been buying gear of various kinds for nearly fifty years. I have never experienced quicker, more responsive, and simply better customer service than what I've gotten from Jule Potter.
Not a slam against anyone, but my philosophy regarding the concept of "really expensive" is: should I spend x dollars on something that most of the time gives me pretty much what I need, or 2x dollars on something that ALWAYS gives me everything I need and more?
Provided that "2x dollars" is within one's financial means (which for me, luckily, it is) this is a no-brainer. YMMV.
This is my experience as well. But as you mention, volume is relative and depends on the gigs you have. In the few gigs I've done so far with my current rig, I have not even needed to pull the line out knob, so plenty of volume into my Genzlers.
I do get why the M2500 would be nice to have, as all of that headroom on reserve has got be a nice feeling. And I'm sure it does add something to the tone as well. But like Dave W said, there is the issue of whether one can personally justify the additional cabbage for that luxury. And like Interp said, that is an equation that varies with each individual.

Personally, I can't imagine a gig where the M700 wouldn't meet my needs. I've use it on several outdoor festivals with a single Audiokinesis Thunderchild TC-112 with no issues at all. Granted, I always go FOH on those occasions, but everyone on stage can hear me.

Some food for thought, my experience
with Jule mirrors yours. In addition to the M700 I own a Walter Woods Electroacoustic Ultra. While it's a spectacular amp, I needed an amp to compliment the Walter Woods. The M700 more than fills that need.

I hope you guys don't take my comments the wrong way. I love my M700 and in playing all sorts of gigs I don't always play really loud but I do play in a jam/blues band where I often cover a decent size room without PA support. I'm only sharing my experience and am upgrading to the M2500 so there is absolutely no gig that I have to leave Mo home.
Just wrapped up a gig playing upright with no amp, wish I had that more often.
