Jule Amps Monique part 5

Not sure what the input sensitivity is on the M2500 (Jule's website shows for the M700, the input sensitivity is -26db, but not sure what that is in mV).
With that much power on tap I would have to try plugging my bass guitar directly into the M2500 to see how it sounds.
With certain bass guitars & certain power amps it works really well.
You might check with Jule 1st, but I don't see any way that anything would get jacked up (except maybe your ears - careful with that volume knob).
Interesting point. I will definitely check with Jule and try it. And yes, I am always VERY careful with the volume knob :-).

I've tried plugging my bass directly into various power-amps and effects loops before because... why not? It's a passive instrument, though, so, levels aside, there is sometimes a big impedance mismatch. Tried running through my fDeck HPF3 and it made a radical difference -- much more clear. I think this has more to do with its function as a buffer than with the HPF (which I had rolled down all the way to 35 Hz). Active instruments would, I imagine, be much less sensitive to that.

My experience with the Monique and M700 basically parallels yours. That said, I recently "upgraded" to an M2500. Jule graciously allowed me to keep the M700 until I've had time to do a comparison of the two, which I did, but unfortunately only under bedroom conditions until last night. I played the M2500 with a Monique and one Fearless F112 at a jam session. Admittedly not at normal gig volume (I never put the M2500 volume past 10 o'clock) but the verdict is: the M700 is going back to Jule. The M2500 basically provided all the goods as the M700, only the goods were gooder: more punch, more articulation, slightly quicker, a sense of having endless headroom, etc. The one caveat is that due to the M2500's massive power, one needs to be very careful with the volume knob.

I too see no reason to explore using a tube power amp.

At one time I had a Walter Woods MI-100-8 and a Walter Woods MI-400-8, there was quite a difference between those two amps. As you said, the goods were gooder. So four times the power does make a difference. Since I'm primarliy
a DB player having a M2500, would be a waste of a great power amp. Just as an aside, I did an outdoor gig recently with a 3Leaf Enabler Pre Amp, the M700, and a single Audiokinesis TC-112. It worked amazingly well. I watched as other
bassist wresteled their larger Eden and Ampeg rigs on and off a small stage, and thought "how lucky I am" to be fortunate enough to play through Duke, Julie, and Spencer's creations.

I have a gigged clubs with that exact rig with great success

The enabler, M 700, TC112 is a fantastic combination

It's a shame that Spencer stopped production on the Enabler. It's a great "one size fits all little box". His new preamp the Vulcan looks to be cut out of the same cloth, it's just missing the practice amp section.

Well he took out the practice section and added the clean out. Looks like this pedal is geared for IEM use as well. I use my enabler for IEM. It's nice to be able to eq your bass in your IEM mix. But I have to use a splitter so I can send a clean mix to my stage rig.
All that will soon be replaced with the new Mesa Subway DI I just ordered. It will be nice to have the Mesa for IEM and the thru out feeding my Monique pumping my cabs on stage.

All we need now is for Jule to make a Monique preamp pedal for IEM use!

Y'all just keep askin' fur stuff! How's a man spossta git anythin' done and see his grands too? My word! Didn't he bring us the great sounding Monique? The fat phat tone is delish! The eq, musical, complex, yet simple in implementation and use. Then he gives you a boat load of watts in an amp and y'all spend posts worrin' if you'll blow your shyte up. Really? Now he has to do that too? I'm just sayin'. :):)

May I just say excuse us, Jule. Thank you.

I asked Jule...if he could possibly make me a semi-transparent black stained Monique Bamboo...the result:

Low visual profile...but yea, it's still the same 'ol awesome "Monique" tone!

Thanks again, Jule and Marsha! :)
No no!! Put down phone & credit card.....Noooooooooooo!! You don't need, you want!! Helllllllllp!

We were talking about Monique over on the has Class D toppled SVT? thread so I pasted this over here.

What do you use for 6sl7 in the Monique.
Shuguang. I tried NOS JAN RCAs. In the studio just playing easily they sounded excellent. The Shuguangs are clearer, punchier and give wide frequency response. Jule required an available tube so bassists could have consistent sound if/when needing to replace on tour or studio. Again way punchier. Same sound loud or soft. So they win out! This is an example where facts beat out ideas.

"Agree, I had changed to a tung sol and it wasn't the same. Put the shguang back in and way better tone around so it stays in."

The surprise was changing the rectifier tube. Okay the sag from the 1944 RCA a guitarist would just love. The EH offered taught punchiness. There is so much delicious chewy color in the Monique that to crown it with immediate attack was my win!

This is why our notions get in the way. "15s have more bass than 10s." "1944 NOS JAN RCA Blackplates have to be better than the 2016 Russian Electro Harmonix rectifier tube." Not necessarily. The Ruby has a little bit more sag than the EH if you're tube rolling. As always, YMMV. :)

And there ya have it. A gentleman who is dedicated to his customers and delivers top notch products to boot!

Many folks have used Monique with a tube power amp or tested it with one. The question was if Jule had been asked to make an integrated all tube bass amp with Mo as a front end. He has not but I think it is a matter of not having the time to design and not that he doesn't want too
It is the weight that is the difficulty. The two transformers (power and output) required to get us to even a middling 300 watts weigh close to 20 pounds each (if we scrimp) . So we start with 40 pounds and go up from there.
Everybody who has been to my shop will tell you the stairs are killers. I ain't dragging all that weight around. :)

Have you considered something less then 300 watts? My reissue Ampeg V4b is 100 watts and it is knock down walls loud. I'd envision 150 watts in the format of a Macintosh MC275 to sit under Monique...Just sayin:woot:
