Jule Amps Monique part 5

I actually noticed a bit MORE in the low end with the GEs. Before throwing them in I would always add some low end with the EQ. Now I find I'm running Monique flat about 95% of the time!

Highly possible that one side of the 12AU7 is not what we want.

Even if it isn't the 12AU7, it is going to be a very easy thing to spot. This is because up until that 12AU7 output driver, both the Line Out and Balanced Out are the same signal inside Monique. It only splits at the 12AU7 and goes separately to the Line Out and the Balanced Out.

Since you have your Line Out working as we like, there isn't much left that can be responsible for giving you Balanced Output woe. It has to be related to 1/2 of that 12AU7.

Here's some pictures of the custom Mooradian bag for my Tardis.

Playing a few other amps lately; Mesa Buster and WA, and my Darkglass B7k. I'm amazed at how dark but bright Mo is. Totally makes sense as to why the Baer cabs pair so well.

I've also been toying with the sensitivity settings and finding that I'm digging the dark sounds below noon with my P and J basses. I'm finding myself fiddling less and less with EQ. I'm wondering if there'd be any love for a non EQ Mo, just levels and sensitivity.

I believe that Jule designed the Monique so that when the knobs are all at noon, there is no EQ being applied to the signal. So, if you center everything you DO have just levels and sensitivity.

Meet with the mastering engineer tonight so I'm bouncing out the final mixes of the new album. Monique is just ridiculously good in the mix and I really don't need to use much compression. We'll see what he says - always good to get another set of ears on things.

I've also been picking up my Rob Allen fretless more the past week or two, working on getting a tone and attack that can cover a broader range than I've been recently attempting. With my Foderas I usually run the bass on Monique at 2-3:00. That gives some booty without being overbearing. The same setting on the RA is just too much, and even flat on Monique doesn't really get what I want. I can cut the bass on the instrument but I don't like the way that ends up. But dropping the bass on Monique to about 9:00 and adding some mid and high ends up being freaking magic with the Rob Allen. The combination of the tubes and cutting the low cleans up the bottom and the highs are at a low enough frequency that they don't make the piezo harsh. Instead it just gives a more articulate attack on the note, which on a fretless can help better define the pocket (depending on the rest of the band and the tune).

In short, I'm still amazed at how effective the eq section is. I think we've gotten used to the idea of needing "surgical eq" and parametrics to have precise control. In certain instances that can be the case, but with Monique, musicality of the eq just seems to win out.

IMO, when you have really great basses and really great cabinets a few thoughtfully placed knobs are where it's at, all day and every day.

Cool! When you are done send it to Denmark :)

Give me a bit of time. A new order of the metal chassis is currently being made up for the Dove Cages. After I attend the NAMM Show in Southern California next week I am sure I will have wanderlust. (I am kidding, but I sure wish I was not.)

The amazing (genius, cool guy) Skip Fantry of Circle K Strings will have Monique in his booth. I am very grateful to him for making Monique available at the show. 35,000 musicians.

Is there any good beer in Denmark? ;)

If you're working with Skip, it means you're also at a booth full of Dave Green's cabs. We know that's a great combination! :)
