Rehearsal report...

I took the Monique and M500 to Soundlab Atlanta. They usually provide the backline there, so I moved their had and plugged the Jule rig into their Aguilar DB 810. The Aguilar is rated at 1400 watts RMS. I easily felt like the 500 watt Jule rig could bring it to its knees.

I really felt like I could turn up and let the amp do the work. As I switched from P pickup to the J pickup, adjusted the tone... everything worked...

At one point, I cut all the mids from my bass and from the Jule and still felt like I could cut through the mix.

On a side note... it is bigger than I though... but the lightweight nature makes it all easier.

I had the same Crest amp you have (plus a Crown xls2502 and Jule M2500 at the same time...) A/b/c’d with two preamps (Monique and Warwick Hellborg) and found a noticeable improvement, in favor of the M2500. I was trying NOT to compare the “Ferrari quickness” or volume differences that the M2500 provides (like no other amp I’ve used)...but rather any effect on my bass tone—admittedly hard to isolate.

I’m not the best with articulate descriptions, but the M2500 was much smoother, highs less harsh to my ears, similar to using a touch of LP filtering. It convinced me to stopped using PA amps. Someone with more technical expertise could explain why, but my ears did hear a difference...

Never demo’d a M700/M500, but I’d venture a guess there’s something about the Hyoex that would yield the same result (vs PA amps) for me, no matter the power level...

Just had a few more orders for the M500. These go in cycles. And since I get to make noise (only somewhat musical) with them all, I do want to mention that the M500 is a very large sounding amp. Very big notes. Very big for a 500 watt.

Some of this is because it delivers a rated 700 watts at 4 ohms. (Under promise and over deliver) Another significant factor is that it uses the same power supply as the 700 watt series of amp. This leaves a large reservoir of power that is part of the quickness and large part of the obvious headroom.

What may be a disadvantage for some of us is the quick power drop at 8 ohms (400 watts) and at 2 ohms (550). It is quite stable at all three output impedances, but it is optimized for 4 ohms.

Thank you. Yup. Pretty big sounding. I'm fairly confident that the M500 would be described as a larger amp if I would ever let marketing people in the room.

I agree with you about the physical size. It is big. Does fit the Dove Cage nicely. The idea to all that aluminum is to dissipate heat - and the recesses front and back were put there to protect the knobs and switches. As you have probably already found, the fan is seldom necessary. Even the new Simone Block 500 watt amp is fairly big for the pedal world, and much of that is heat transfer capability. No fan required in the Simone Block 500 watt.

Whoa! It runs off 9v?

9 volts, but 2000 mls. Most 9 volt wall warts deliver about 500 mls. There are a lot of 1000 ml units. 2000 mls is unusual. "Godlyke" products has been making them, and that is what I am going to provide.

I know I'll get in trouble for this, but here is a very early peak. More changes being done. Days out. Looks tall from this angle, but you are looking at 3". A cute little sturdy grill fits over the tubes.

I do this 'cause all of you have been (well, most of you ) very patient.
